DO IT This story is sad and is set during the time of the Breakup. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Shadows of Love by Astral ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The sun shone brightly in the light blue sky, hazy clouds roamed over it creating castles in which princesses lived and knights sought their hands. The day was perfect and beautiful, giving all under it's wing a feeling of contentment and happiness. All but one, that is. Serena Tsukino walked morosely down the streets of Tokyo, her slow steps dragging, and her vibrant blond hair straying listlessly behind her body. This wonderful girl, who was usually lit up with laughter and was rarely without a radiant smile now had pain etched into her beautiful azure eyes. But it was hidden, deep down and only became visible when she was alone with her thoughts. She walked in the general direction of the Crown Arcade, where many of her friends would be, laughing and playing video games. As she noticed where her course was taking her, she reversed it, turning down a deserted street that led far away from the people she cared most about. She looked up, sensing something. She turned her head, eyes alert as they searched for something out of the ordinary. The bright sun blocked her view of the other side of the street, the light from the window of a car shining into her eyes. She raised her hand, casting the glaring light away from her eyes so she could see the figure standing across the street from her. A dark-haired man stood in the shadows of the tall building erected on the other side of the narrow street, staring intently at her. His dark blue eyes visible and searing even from where she was at. "Darien," she breathed. He turned, somehow vanishing into the shadows that seemed to shroud him wherever he went. Serena suddenly surged forward, running quickly and easily across the road. She looked frantically for him, for her love, but found nothing but hot cement. Her heart thumped as tears trickled from the corners of her eyes. She wanted to fall and never get up, to vanish just as much as Darien had but to never reappear. "Darien," she said once again, this time a anguished cry to the heavens. Her breath caught in her throat as she finally broke down and cried heart breaking sobs. The tears fell steadily, her body no longer able to hold itself up as she collapsed on the ground. She stayed there crying, feeling as if she were nothing, a body that laughed and cried and joked with her friends, but nothing there. She was a broken toy that looked fine on the outside, but would never work properly. _________________________________________________ Darien Chiba watched this from his perch upon a fire escape, his breathing erratic and uncontrollable as he fought the urge to jump toward her and pick her up, never letting go. His beautiful angel, his princess, was torn and he couldn't help her mend. A thousand voices talked and screamed violently in his head, telling him to go to her, to love her, while just one told him to stay away, to keep her safe and alive and breathing. This one voice, the most powerful and demanding, the one that was hardest to obey, controlled him. He followed it, finding it the hardest thing he had ever done in his many lives, but he did. "Oh, Serena, oh, beautiful owner of my heart, please understand, I can't let you get hurt, I can't let you die," Darien whispered into the slight wind, his voice smooth and warm. He closed his eyes, and jumped away from the fire escape and off into the world of loneliness. While his love cried for him, he fought his own soul and stayed away. Forever he would walk in this battlefield that was his mentality, forever he would fight for her and he would win, his instinct and desire to see her safe always prevailing over his selfish need to be with her, and have her love him. He would always win over his own loneliness, and hers.
