Okay, this is a little odd for me, because usually I write a chapter on Tuesday, edit it on Wednesday, and send it on Thursday, except this time I'm just going to do it all on Thursday, so it's gonna be kinda short. Please excuse the profound amount of errors, I'm horrible at editing. This is going to have a bit from the first chapter in it, and an explanation on the title, why it's called what it is, will come later (Gomen!) The end is supposed to be a cliffhanger, so if you hate those, you might wanna leave. (Except I try to put a chapter out every Sunday, so it's not that long of a wait.) Hey! If you like action, check out Taka-sama! She's cool, and I get to live longer every chapter I write with her name in it! ^ ^ Title: Let us Remember. . .hmm? Part 4 Author: Me! Enchantress Wyrm (bwendel@svn.net) Rating: PG to a PG-13 Disclaimer: People who don't write fanfiction don't realize how mundane this becomes. It's really very menacing to think about having to make these things intresting every story. I'll stop now. ***Story! (I love my job)*** "That inconsiderate . . . baka!" Makoto fumed as they all raced out of Mamoru's apartment. "He doesn't really think these things out, does he?" Rei asked rhetorically. "He's so slow, he has forethought *after* the fact!" Ami voiced in response. Everyone halted and just stared at her. "What?" She asked puzzled. Minako shook her head. "Ami, only you would use this as an opportunity to exercise your vocabulary so . . . never mind." The others nodded in agreement. "Hey, lets split up to look for her." Makoto said. "I'll take the arcade. Rei, you head back to the temple to see if she's gone there. Ami, you and Minako check the mall." Rei and Minako nodded in agreement. "Why the mall?" Ami asked confused. "That's where I go when I'm down." Makoto replied. Minako and Rei nodded again. "Oh." Ami said thoughtfully. "First one to find her calls the others on the communicater." Makoto said with authority. "Okay?" "Right." The other replied. "Hey, shouldn't someone check the park?" Minako asked. "We'll look there if she's not anywhere else." Makoto said. "If it looks like the search in the mall is fruitless, you can head over to the park." "Okay." Minako said. Little did they know, someone *was* going to search the park for them . . . Mamoru ran without really thinking about where he was going. He trusted his heart to lead him where he needed to be. He had that advantage over the senshi: He naturally knew where Usagi was. He just hoped that when he got there, he could set it all right . . . A sob tore at her throat. Her vision blurred dangerously. She wiped her eyes on a sleeve and kept going until she spotted the park. She quickened her pace, not caring whether or not she would trip. Usagi ripped through a hedge, snagging her clothing and catching brambles in silken hair. She fell to her knees beneath the secluded tree. Hidden away from the rest of the park, she could lean up against the sturdy trunk and sob all she liked without being noticed by anyone, trying to hide her heart, cover it in layers to buffer it against any more pain. 'How could he?' Usagi wondered, not for the first time. He hadn't said much to her since that battle against Rubeus and the four sisters, but just to remember what he a had done, the cool words and composure, ice emitting from him where there had only been warmth, was enough to still bring her near tears. Usagi leaned her head against her knees, fealing the fabric of her skirt against her skin. She could still picture it: that battle was horrid, but not as bad as what had happened afterwards, and this new discovery . . . She didn't really know what the senshi were doing at his apartment, but whatever it was, it hadn't proven to change the way he felt about her. That much was obvious to her. 'Why? Why why why why why why?!' That question had been the one to haunt her no matter what had happened. Why he had broken up with her, although he said he didn't love her, it was hard to believe . . . and why he had avoided her afterwards? Just because they weren't going out, doesn't mean they couldn't be friends, did it? She gave a slight sob again and tried to blot it all out. His attitude, his words, his voice- "Usagi?" She heard a voice call out. *His* voice. She froze like a rabbit in the headlights (Get it? Never mind.) Maybe if she didn't make a sound, he would keep going- "Usagi? Is that you in there?" It was a fat hope. She sighed. No use dening it now, he would always know where she was anyway. "Go away!" She cried out hoarsley. "No." he said simply, and walked up towards where she was. She cringed away from him as though he were a dark and sinister force. "Please," he begged her. "Don't leave. Don't be afraid." 'She has every reason to be afraid of you, you stupid-' "Afraid? You broke my heart, and you continue to hurt me every single time I see. Why wouldn't I be afraid?" She had never voiced the way she felt before, to anyone. She had just played the lovelorn girlfriend, never expressing what she was really afraid of. "And yet, I can't help but want to see you, despite what you do." She was close to tears again, and turned away. He had been silent, but now he tried to speak. "Usagi, let me explain-" "Explain? I've heard enough of your explanations, and I'm tired of them. They hurt me, yet still I seek you out, as though I *want* to be hurt." She looked at him in a sort of disbelief. "You know how that makes me feel? Worthless!" With that, she turned to walk out on him. He grabbed her wrist to prevent her from leaving. "You're not worthless, never let anybody tell you that!" He tried to get her to look him in the eye. She looked up with cold determination. "No, just you!" She spat with vehmenence. He step back into the shadows, releasing her wrist from his grasp. She didn't seem as though she were going to try and leave. "I never," Mamoru said so quietly she barely heard his words. "I never, ever wanted that to happen." His voice grew and inch louder. "All I ever wanted to do, was protect you." He turned his head away, abashed. "And all I've ever done is hurt you." He continued to avoid her glance, finding invisible things to stare at instead. She moved forward cautiously. "Mamoru," her voice shook a little with the power of his name. "I never wanted protection, if it meant losing you." She walked boldly up to him, unsure of what she was doing. His head snapped around to stare down at her. An open face looked back up at him, blue eyes the sparkled with such depth it was scary, stared right into his own. Her body leaned against him. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her form. "Usagi," he breathed her name softly, to no one, to everyone. They stood there for an uncountable time. It may have been seconds, or an eternity, a myriad of hours that were lost but not wasted, niether were sure. "And I will always love you." She whispered softly. She glanced up, and he tightened his arms around her, gathering her mouth into his, quickly, hungriliy, running his tongue along the inside of her lip before letting go apruptly with a soft groan and a shake of his head, like a man coming up through water. She looked at him, slightly dazed, as his ocean blue eyes stared at her. "As will I." He whispered back, then ruefully looked away. "But I can never be sure you are safe with this dream-!" "There he is!" "Where?" "Over there, under the tree!" He was interruped by voices. *Familiar* voices. Usagi looked over to see the her advancing friends. 'I don't want to see them right now!' She thought desperately. 'I need to be alone, to sort out how I feel!' With a small, muffled sound, Usagi tore herself from his arms and fled back through the hedge. "Usako!" He called, but she did not hear him. He turned back, only to be greeted by his impending doom . . . That's it for now! Sorry it's so short, but I'm dog sitting, and having a little trounble concentrating with Tuna Breath here. Gotta book it! Oh, if you want to read a story with little action, humor, and a *lot* of weirdness, check out A Night in the Life of a Senshi. (It's my little sister's first fanfic, so be nice please!)
