I have to find Serena! He's heart cried frantically. He near the corner and slowed down to soft steps. Quickly he made a rose for Serena; She loved roses. Serena would forgive him. He turned the corner and stopped at the sight that faced him. Two figures stood in the middle of the street and as Darien watched in shocking silence, Serena leaned over and placed her lips on gently on Seiya's. Darien didn't watch anymore, turning away, the blood roaring in his ears he crushed the thorns of the palm his hands and never noticed as the blood trickled from his hands and onto the ground. The world swayed under his feet, taking in a deep breath Darien dropped the rose onto the ground and ran with no desire to stop... ********************************************************************** "Friends." Serena smiled and held out her hands. It'd been a short kiss, nothing but a peck on the lips. Now her heart was finally contented. Seiya smiled sadly. "Of course." He said although he knew clearly with crystal clarity that he was lying to himself as well as to Serena. How could he forget her. It was virtually impossible. Suddenly they sensed the presence of another being but when they turned around, they could find no one. "What's this?" Serena whispered as she noticed a dark object lying on the ground just several meters from them. Walking with fast steps towards the object, Serena picked it up and inhaled sharply when she realized what it was. A rose. A blood red rose. Yes. there was blood on the rose and who but Darien could produce such roses? Tears filled SErena's eyes "Oh god. No." She moaned. "Not Darien..." Than without saying a single word to Seiya, she took off in the only direction she knew Darien would go. The lake-their sanctury. ************************************************************************* The night was cold, yet it soothed him, Darien felt exhausted; the seemingly endless run had finally came to an abrupt end when he had reached the only place that had symbolized he and Serena's lives so significantly. Autumn had became a beautiful sight at daytime and more at it's haunting moments at night, it was a time when humans of all kind turn over a new leave. The air was as clear as crystal and as fresh as Spring's fresh rain, ahead of him the lake rippled with a soft tenderness as if the caress the multicolored leaves that drifted down from the low hanging branches. The image of Serena and Seiya and their kiss together made his heart wept silently, the pain was apparant on his dark handsome face and yet no tears fell from his eyes. His mind remained transfixed on the image of the betrayal the only girl he had dared to love had whipped him with. How can she do this to me? His heart cried angrily. Why now? When i had thought that we were so much in love with each other? He slammed his fist against a near by tree and watched as the blood trickled between his fingers. "Darien." The voice came from behind him and as Darien turned around to face the person who had hurt him so, a tear fell from his eyes. "Don't come any closer." Darien said as Serena attempted to walk towards him from where she'd been standing. Serena stopped in her tracks, than she saw the tear on Darien's face. She reached out her hand to embrace him but Darien stopped her. It scared Serena to see such pain and disappointment on his face. "You can tell me you don't love me, you can love someone else, you can leave me, but for god's sake i want you to tell me yourself-I don't want a goddamed lie!" The coldness in his voice was inevitable and it killed Serena to see those pain in his eyes. "Darien-I'm sorry. But-" SErena protested. Her eyes shone with desperate tears and it killed Darien to see that she was crying but he couldn't weaken now. "Stop!" darien closed his eyes and took a deep shuttering breath. Why? Why did it have to be that way? "Why Serena? Why does it have to be you Serena? Tell me. Why do you hurt me?" The tears in Serena's eyes begged him for forgiveness "Darien-Listen to me-" "Don't. Serena-Just-Don't." His voice was choked and Darien didn't know if he had the strength to continue on any more. Somehow though, the words came faster than he'd thought. "You disappointed me Serena, I really thought you were the woman for me, through time i had came to accept that our destinies were joint and that we were in love one thousand years ago. I came to fall in love with the meatball head who had first thrown that test paper at my head. " He smiled to himself at the thought, but than his heart hardened as he remembered the image of Serena and Seiya kissing. "...I never imaged i'll fall in love with a meatball head like you-" he looked at Serena and his eyes glinted with a thin layer of tears "But i did and i'd loved you ever since." He swallowed. "You were the first girl i'd ever met who had been so full of love that it totally overwhelmed me. I didn't think i'll ever forget you." He looked away and he's jaws hardened. "But today, you disappointed me." He said, his back to Serena. Serena started to protest, her voice growing higher with each note. "You don't understand Darien. I did it for a reason-I-" "You did it because you love him." Serena was stunned. Not because of the tone of Darien's words, nor the expression on his face but the fact that he above all others had thought she was in love with another man. A thousand years and the countless sacrifices and tears had not been enough to prove the boundless love they had fought to preserve. Didn't he know by now that he was the only man in the world she'd ever love? Serena laughed bitterly. Had the past thousand years been a joke God had been playing on them? "I never imagined our love would one day end like this." Serena began as the tears fell from her eyes. Was this to be their final moments together? "Three years, Darien. Hadn't that been enough to prove my love for you? Hadn't the tears and laughter we'd experienced these past years been enough?" Every word from her mouth sent Darien's mind reeling with a hundred thoughts. Had it really been that way? "Serena-" Darien began, his mouth went dry at her previous words. Serena blinked back her tears. "Darien Shields. You should know by now that you are the only man that i'd ever love. If one thousand years haven't been enough for you to trust our with your heart, than nothing will." Her tears dried, than turning around Serena turned and ran... Darien watched as she ran, one thousand years. Had SErena been right, had these one thousand years been just a joke god had played on them? The confusion and hurt flowed into his heart and suddenly he found himself punching at the trunk of the tree as though it was a soft mattress. The blood flowed. ************************************************************************* *Had the past one thousand years been a joke god had played on us?* Her words echoed pitifully through her heart as Serena ran faster than she'd ever ran before. The late pedestrians past her in a dark haze and soon Serena was out of breath but she wouldn't stop. All of a sudden the world seemed to have fallen into that ever deeper darkness she had always wanted to avoid. A tightness formed in her heart but still Serena wouldn't stop. There was nothing left for her to stop for. And with her own words ringing in her head, Serena continued to run. *Because you love him* One thousand years. One boy named SEiya had already been enough to topple their love. Was Darien's trust in her that shallow? Serena didn't want to think. For the past three years, she had devoted her whole life to saving the world, to fight for the love and justice she knew still existed in this blue planet and yet, where had the love she'd always known gone to? She was running through a park when The tightness in her chest grew into an unbearable pain and finally Serena had to stop to rest her aching body. "God. Why are you doing this to us? Why give me any love at all when you were planning to take it back today? Why?" Serena screamed as she collapsed onto a nearby bench and began to sob; her body jerking shakily as the tears fell from her eyes and onto her face. Suddenly, music filled the air and SErena heard again the music she had heard so often for the past one thousand years. THe music of her star locket. Wiping the tears from her face, Serena looked up and found that her star locket had fell from her pocket and had dropped open on the neatly mowed lawn. Her heart saddened as she listened to that haunting melody "I thought it would have been forever." SHe whispered. "When my power had failed me, i had grasp onto my faith, when faith had failed me i had held onto my hope and when hope had failed me i had reached for that love only he could give me. But why-" she wanted to scream loudly. "Why doesn't he believe in me. Why doesn't he believe that he's the only one i'll ever love!" Once again the sobs racked her body and SErena had to clutched tightly onto her chest to keep the pain from invading the rest of her body. Victorilia had placed the Alphise crystal in her system to kill her and perhaps that would have been an easier escape. Day after day for an entire week, she had watched her fellow friends slave over a cure for her terminating live force and yet, none had came. She couldn't die now. Her friends needed her and yet how long can she remain like this. She was going to die, there had been no other alternative, in three weeks time the Alphise crystal will eventually kill her. So why not leave now, quietly and without having to see the tears and sadness in everyone's eyes. Reaching down she picked her star locket up from the grass and wiped it on her shirt. Heading for a desolated part of the park, SErena picked a thick branch from the ground and knelt down beside the oak. The tree of wisdom; she would guide her. Shoveling the soil away from a spot under the tree, Serena dug a hole until it was approximately twenty five centimeters deep. She wanted her memories to be buried deep and forever. Than dropping her star locket into her self made hole, Serena began to shovel the soil back over the top of the void. "Goodbye, Darien." Serena said before she got up from her spot. She looked around at her surroundings "And goodbye, Tokyo." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It was 11 at night and there was still no signs of Serena. Kent paced to and from the middle of the living room; looking up every once in a while to see that the clock hands were creeping slowly towards midnight and his daughter was still not back from her nightat the skating rink. "For god's sake, it's 11 already! Where do you think she went?" Kent exploded at last. Ilene sighed and looked up at the clock. It was getting late "I really hope Serena's okay." Her heart raced as an image of Victorilia flashed into her mind. "Do you think something might have happened to her?" She cried. Kent looked sharply at his wife. "Shhh...Ilene. The kids are asleep." He sighed and looked up at the ticking clock again. "Do you think we should call the girls?" Ilene frowned "Call Jack first. He's an intelligent boy, he'll know what to do." So after another few words, an exasperated Kent picked up the phone and punched in Jack's number. "Hello?" Jack's voice came onto the line. He sounded tired, like he had just been woken up from a deep sleep. "Jack, this is Kent." Kent said. "Mr Tsukino?" Jack sounded awake now and Kent heard the faint sound as Jack moved the phone to his other hand. "Yes-" He paused, undecided between alarming the boy and trying to find the whereabouts of his daughter. Finally he decided that a little alarm was better than loosing a beloved daughter "Listen to me Jack, what time did Serena leave the skating rink?" On the other line, Jack frowned. Was that worry he had depicted from Kent's tired voice? He couldn't be sure, one thing was for sure though. It didn't sound like he was going to get the sleep he had yearned for that night. "Is something wrong?" Jack replied at last. "Just answer my question first, Jack." Kent said, he sounded anxious. Again, Jack frowned as he tried to remember the time "It should have been about 8." he said. Kent felt his voice freeze in his throat. 8! That was three hours ago, whatever happened, Serena should have been back by now. "Hello? Mr Tsukino? Hello?" Jack's shouted into the phone when Kent failed to answer. He paused before saying his next sentence; the feeling of impending dread weighed heavy against his heart. "Is it Serena? Has something happened to her?" he asked. Kent paused before answering, but at last he decided it was wiser to be honest with the boy. Ilene had been right, Jack was an intelligent boy. He'll know what to do. "She's missing Jack. Serena is missing." On the other line, Jack groaned aloud. He knew it, something had happened to Serena. Only what? He shouldn't have needed to think or consider, it was obvious. Darien. Only that particular guy could get his normally happy go lucky sister so upset. "Listen, Mr Tsukino. I'll come right over." He looked at his watch. "Don't call the others yet, wait until i'm here." Jack didn't go immediately to the Tsukino household; instead he crept out of the house unnoticed by his guardians and headed for Darien's apartment. Perhaps he has the answer to Serena's disappearance. ************************************************************************* Absently, Serena sat down on the seats by the departing gate of the Tokyo Airport. Initially she had considered going home to pack her clothes and leave on the first plane to wherever. But a second thought reminded her that her parents were probably awake and there were no way she could sneak out without them seeing her, and anyway where would she get the money from? She'd been foolish, this whole world was operated by humans and so she must go by human rules because she too was a human. Yet, where could she go now? The night had been fresh and the rain had waken her conscious up considerably and for once in a few hours Serena considered her situation carefully. Indeed, there were no where she could go-except for home. Getting up from her seat, Serena looked up at the great clock in the center of the airport, 11:30, it was getting late, she had better go home. Serena took one step forward and suddenly the world froze. Froze; halted; it was as though time had stopped. All around her, the blurred haze of late travelers at the airport froze in mid stride and even the clock seemed to have stopped functioning. "Your highness." A figure appeared from behind a blur of people. It was Sailor Pluto-guardian of the time. "Sailor Pluto!" Serena gasped as she stared at the approaching figure. "What are you doing here? I thought you were suppose to be guarding the gate of time?" She swallowed the nervous lump in her throat. If the matter had been important enough for Pluto to leave her time gate, than the matter must be very serious. Pluto nodded. "Indeed, your highness." She paused before beginning her next sentence. "Something very serious has happened in the future." Immediately, an image of Rini flashed into Serena's mind. The future! Of course, it had been her fault for neglecting Rini's sudden appearance in Tokyo. She should have guessed something terribly wrong had happened in the future. "Rini-" Serena began. "She couldn't remember anything." Again Pluto nodded. "That is correct, i took her memory away from her for a reason." Serena gasped. "You took her memory away?" Pluto smiled sadly. "Serena." She said, using Serena's name for the first time. "This is not her fight." she paused. "i sent her back solely for one reason." she paused again at this point. "That i cannot reveal but in time, the truth will unveil itself. I can assure you though, Small lady's existence has a great influence in the present time as well as the future." Serena shook her head in confusion. All of Pluto's answers were evolving into more questions yet. "Victorilia and Elfanmion-do they have anything to do with it?" she asked finally. There was no expression on Pluto's face as she pronounced her next words. "They will play a distinctive role in the possible destruction of your present world." "How?" Pluto's face was grave "If you, who controls the future dies, than there will be no future for humanity. Do you understand, Serena?" she didn't wait for an answer. "You are no ordinary human, Serena, the balance of the future hangs on your shoulders. The choice is yours..." And before Serena could ask another question, the guardian of time was gone and she was left in the midst of a busy airport. *The choice is yours...* Pluto's words hang on her shoulder like a heavy luggage. What will become of the future if i die? The night offers no answers; she'd better go home. *************************************************************************** Out on the balcony of his compact apartment, Darien watched as the distant moon appeared and disappeared behind the dark rain clouds that were apparant in tonight's sky. However much, Darien wanted to indulge himself in the mysteriousness of the night sky though, he could not take his mind off the bitter image of Serena and her departing words. "Oh Serena. Forgive me." He whispered at the moon. Deep in his heart, the regret overwhelmed to a boiling point. Of all the stupidest thing he'd ever done, how could he hurt the girl he loved most in the world so much? The knocking on his front door interrupted Darien's thoughts. "Open the door, Darien." A voice commanded from the other side. Darien recognized the voice immediately. He opened the door. "What are you doi-?" Jack didn't give him a chance to finish his sentence. Even before he had stepped into Darien's apartment, his fist made contact with the side of Darien's nose and Darien toppled over on to the ground. "What did you do to her?" Jack demanded. "What did you do to my sister?" Trying to clear his vision, Darien was surprised to see such anger boiling in Jack's eyes. "i-" He began, trying to explain himself. Jack shook his head. "For godsake Darien, i didn't want to do that. But i trusted my sister with you. I thought you'd be the guy who'll protect her forever, from the silver millennium until the coming future. I-" He didn't finish his sentence. Trembling with rage, Jack slammed the door behind him. "Da-damn you, Darien." Wiping the blood from his nose with the back of his sleeve, Darien picked himself up from the ground and staggered towards Jack. "Serena-Has something happened to her?" his voice was trembling with the anxiety and the fear that something might have happened to the love of his live. Jack shook his head. "She's missing, Darien. She hasn't gone home." Darien's heart skipped a beat at Jack's words. *she's missing* the words echoed deep and soundly at the bottom of his heart. "No." Darien groaned. "What have i done?" He contacted his bare hands with the hard wooden floor of his apartment and ignored the pain that shot up his arm. The only thing he could feel right now was the regret left in his heart. It was his fault. All his fault, how could he'd been stupid. He'd hurt her, he'd hurt the only person he'd ever love. "Stop it Darien, stop it." Jack was pleading him now as Darien continued to hit the floor with the back of his hands. "STOP IT!" He exploded at last. "Now is not the time for regret, Darien. Listen to me! Darien!" Finally Darien calmed down enough for Jack's words to sink in. "I can't loose her now, Jack. I can't." Jack nodded his head. "Neither can i." He said simply. "Come on, get up now. We have to find her." He reached out a hand to help Darien up. Taking Jack's hand, Darien heaved himself off the ground and ran into the kitchen to grab his keys so that he and Jack could leave straight away to look for Serena. "I'm coming, Serena. I'm coming." ************************************************************************** Serena shivered and wrapped her coat tighter around her. The night was dark and shapeless shadows shifted in the darkness surrounding her. Before she had never noticed how one's footsteps could echoed so loudly in the dead of the night; now she did though as she took one step after another on the empty streets of Tokyo. She looked at her watch. 12:00, it was getting later than she'd imagined and she was still a long way away from her house. "Oh Darien, where are you when i need you the most?" Serena whimpered softly. She shook her head at her words. Courage, Serena, Courage. She told herself. None the less, Serena hastened her footsteps and was just about to turn the corner of a main street in Tokyo when a voice stopped her promptly in her tracks. "Serenity." End of chapter 14--------------------------------------------------------- At last!!! oh my god, it took me so long to write this chapter. Especially with all my stupid exams and stuff coming up, writing is starting to take longer and longer. Anyway, we're a drawing to a end in Sailor moon Universal F now. I would say in about two or three more chapters, the story would be finished. Ummm...don't know what next chapter will be about, but i would say it is certainly drawing to a climax in the story. Anyway, write to me!!! I need lots of emails so i can write a good ending! Alice visit my homepage at http://fly.to/moonlightdestiny
