Luna regarded Artemis with a look she was sure was meant for him-as if his sarcastic tone somehow demanded it. She was of course relieved to find out about his steady recovery. But he was just getting on her nerves again. "What's the matter Artemis, afraid to fly?" she asked from her already cramped cage she was sharing with the white cat. Luna regarded herself lucky she didn't get cooped up with a chicken or some other wildlife, but was begining to regret the airline's inspectors decision to keep them together. "Besides," she added, "you've flown before-back in England with Mina." "Does this look like travel arrangements fit for a Lunar Cat?", he asked, licking his fur. That annaconda cage was looking mighty cozy right now, she mused... ************************************************************************************ Darien was reading the newest issue of Anime America. Or at least trying to. He was concentrating more on Serina looking out the window than on the latest Macross video. The hadn't said more than two words to each other since arriving on the plane nearly an hour ago, and Darien was begining to wonder how exactly to break the ice with someone who you haven't seen in several years. She still hates me, he thought to himself. And with good reason. But I have to convince her somehow... "Darien, what are you starring at?", Serina asked, breaking his concentra- tion. He looked up to her, startled. "Uh,nothing," he stammered quickly averting his eyes back to his magazine. "Uh huh," she said and turned back to the window. There were so many ques- tions to be answered. So many dreams unfullfilled. She had to know why...but how could she trust him? He made her this way right? So why should she even want to talk to him? She reminded herself that she was only on this trip to save Ami, but her heart longed for him again, and she couldn't figure out WHY. "Darien," she started quietly, but was answered by the soft sounds of his sleeping. "Oh Darien," Serina said to herself. "Why did you have to come back now?" ************************************************************************************ The one the humans called 'Jake' had no real name; at least not one he could remember. After the battle with Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Scouts, most of the Negaverse had been laid to waste. Jake found himself waking up to a reality with no home, no queen, no nothing. So he gathered himself up and did the only thing he could remember: destroy Sailor Moon. He had spent the better part of four years just trying to find her, with no luck anywhere. Jake at first thought he finally hit paydirt with Serina, but later concluded that it was not likely; someone as messed up as she was could never be the feared Sailor Moon. But this Darien character intrigued him. He vageuly remembered Queen Beryl talking about him to Malachite that fateful day, but recalled nothing else. Even so, Jake felt Darien was an important tie to Sailor Moon; he would find and exploit it. But right now, there were more pressing matters at hand. Like this. Jake looked over the young man strapped to I V tubes and life support. He was suprised;no make that downright shocked that he still lived. That attack at the air- port should have turned him to particles; Jake could find no logical reason for this turn of events. Not that it mattered though. He viewed his target with a sense of respect-there were not many who survived such an attack; fewer still that had a slight bit of Nega-Energy in them. But this was the real McCoy. Was. Jake settled into position over the young mans bed. He stirred, but did not wake up."Pity," he said to the man. "Looks like all the work those doctors did to you was all for nothing. Oh well, cest la vie..." He raised his hand and began to draw the life energy from the patient. He was getting a good amount too, until he found himself propelled through the bedroom wind- ow to the streets below. He found his senses, and quickly righted himself, only to be met halfway down by a raven haired girl in a sailor fuku, preceded by what looked like a very large fireball. "Oh,shit." He vanished in a flash of light, narrowly escaping the deadly ball of flame. Meanwhile, Sailor Mars landed on the ground looking around, wondering where her foe had vanashed to... ************************************************************************************ "I just don't get it," Rei was saying. "He was there one second, and then gone the next." Raye was detailing the events to Lita and Mina, having just arrived to Ami's house. "But Greg is doing better now than he was before. I'm not sure how, but I think that the negative energy from that thing somehow healed him," she fin- ihed. "All set to go," Mina called from the bedroom. Raye and Lita nodded at each other and headed upstairs to Ami's room. "So what's the plan?" Lita asked. "Well, it's a longshot," Mina answered, "but it just might work. I found a file with Ami's heath records and I think we can use that, along with the power wands to get that bio-data back into her." She waited for thier comments. Lita looked at Raye wide-eyed, who returned the stare. "Have you completely lost it girl???" Lita asked her. "She a Human, not a robot we can just download a file into." "But I think we can. Ami's computer has a small program that allows her to regenerate some of her strength while in battle. It seems to have the same qualities that the Siler Crystal does." Raye looked at her like she was loony. "Mina, that is the craziest, hair- brained idea I have ever heard in my life!!! It will never work!!!" "If you have a better plan, now's the time," she bit back. "That won't be necessary," said a voice from the door of the room. "I think we have what we need right here..." *********************************************************************************** There were tears of joy from the other Scouts, and from Serina as well. Darien hung back a bit; a sorrowful smile played across his face. He was happy the girls had found each other again, but was begining to realize that he wouldn't be needed here anymore. He watched as the Scouts did thier transformations, and they were waiting on Serina. "Hope this thing still works," Serina said, pulling the locket out of her pocket. She held it high and said, "MOON CRYSTAL POWER!!!" And waited for the light to envelop her. Thirty seconds passed. Then thirty more. Nothong happened. "Try again, Serina," Sailor Venus suggested. "Maybe it's just a little... rusty?" Jupiter and Mars rolled her eyes at Venus, but told Serina to try again anyways. She did. Still nothing. "Damnit, what the hell is going on?" Serina asked, frustrated with herself. Darien had a brainstorm. "Empty your pockets," he said calmly. "What?" "Empty your pockets," he repeated. "What will emptying my pockets have to do with anything?" she said, perhaps a bit more harshly than she meant to. But if Darien took offense, he didn't show it. "You have to be pure in mind and body to do it,right? So empty your pockets." He knew what was going on, but her friends had a right to know. A long moment passed between the two. Serina looked at Ami's still form and then at Darien. He could see the hurt in her eyes, but didn't flinch. Serina slowly began to remove some items from her pocket. A small amount of money, candy wrappers, a photo of all the Scouts, and a small wrapped up bag. Jupiter saw the bag and picked it up. She eyed Serina suspisiously; Serina returned the glare. She examined the contents of the bag and then put it back on the table. "We'll talk about this later..." was all Jupiter said to her. Serina continued to glare at her but tried her transformation again. "MOON CRYSTAL POWER!!!" The light finally did come, and Serina welcomed it. It was as if all the pain from the last four years had been laid to rest; old scars were gone and the power of the crystal flowed through her once again. The girls and Darien were in a bit of a shock; this was not the Serina they had just recently met-this was the Serina of old. Her hair was back to it's origanal length, meatballs and all. She seemed stronger than before; growong up turned her wirey frame into a more toned version of the Scout leader. Serina looked at herself in the mirror, tears begining to fall. Why did it have to end? she asked herself. Venus' hand rested upon Sailor Moon's shoulder, nearing tears herself. "Welcome back." was all she said. Serina placed her hand on Venus', and nodded a thank you to her and the other two. Serina reached into her dimesional pocket, the place where she kept her weapons of the moon, and found the moon secpter right where she had left it. She looked over to Darien, who was sitting in the chair by the door. "Darien?" she asked quietly. Darien looked up. "Come. We need you also" she said in a voice of love Darien was sure he would never hear again. "But Sailor Moon," he started. "Come on cape boy," Jupiter said smiling. "Ami needs all the help we can give her." Darien got up and took the single rose from his pocket, holding at arms length. Nothing needed to be said; it never did. He just willed himself to transform, and was Tuxedo Mask once again. He walked over to Sailor Moon's right side; Venus gave him a wink while Sailor Moon smiled at him with her blue eyes. "Moon..." Jupiter was on the other side of Tuxedo mask, placing her hand below Sailor Moon's. Venus and Mars, on Sailor Moons left, did the the same. "Healing..." Tuxedo Mask placed his hand on top of Sailor Moon's; a smile passed between them. "ESCALATION!!!" The room shone in a multitude of colored light as the wand combined the energies of them all. The beam stuck Ami, and her sigil began to glow... ************************************************************************************ Jake picked himself up from the alley he uncerimoniously got depositied in. It was a matter of do or die; he didn't have time to think about where he would wind up-he just had to leave. Fast. He considered himself damn lucky he didn't paste him- self inside a wall. He was still shaking off the cobwebs when his scanner emmited a shrill beep. The scanner had been modified from an old telepoter the older members of the Nega- verse had to use because of thier age. Now it was tracking the movement of Sailor Scouts whenever they might appear. Only this time there were four of them. The machine was too outdated to track the individual bio-signs. But he had a definite lock on four life signs that had incredible energy signatures. This was it. Time for payback... ************************************************************************************ ...she felt herself being pulled in every direction by the force which occupied her soul. She would give anything to make it stop, even die to escape the pain. She almost did until she saw a blinding light beckon to her. She followed, against the wishes of her mind, which, if it could speak, would be screeming bloody murder. Then, all at once, the pain was gone, the dream was ending, and serenity filled her world... ************************************************************************************ Come on Ami, she thought. Her hands were burning, not from the rod itself, but from the heat energy supplied by her friends. And one of those friends was close to death. So she forcefully put the pain to the back of her mind, and tried to think positive thoughts, if only to save Ami... "Oh Serina you're the best friend a girl could have", Molly had said to her once. And what of Molly and Melvin? What had become of them... "Hi Serina!!I brought you some cookies I made to make you feel better", from Lita, who showed her devotion to Serina when no one else would... "Serina, I am very proud of you",Luna said once, and she knew that Luna had meant it too. How could she leave her and Artemis without a goodbye... "Come on girl, we are gonna go and shop 'till we drop!" This, from Mina who always picked her up when the Nega- vesre brought her down... "No you can't have my comic's you big mooch!!!" Raye, always the big mouth. But she always smiled when Raye came around-the bickering was always in fun... "I love you Serina..." Darien...reason to live... soulmate in her universe. And Reenie? Was she gone too... ...Serina continued to send the rays of healing to her fallen friend, the first to believe in her; the last to forsake her. Sunddenly Ami's eyes began to flutter. Someone shouted "It's working!!!", but she didn't pay attention to who it was. The energy continued to flow through her into her friend, and Ami awoke, as if rising from a long hibernation. Serina, spent, stopped the flow of energy around her and looked at Ami. Ami stretched and rose from the bed. But all the tears of joy turned to horror when she spoke. "Where am I? And who are all of you?" Sailor Moon, now Serina after the energy drain, collapsed on the floor... ************************************************************************************ To be continued in Chapter 6-The Final Battle infinityrecord@geocities.com C.J.
