Title: From Thy Kingdoms Come - Chapter 1 Author: Aquamarine Angel Edited by: Crescent Moon E-mail Address: aquamarineangel@sailormoon.com Web Address: http://www.geocities.com/universe_guardians Rating: G _____________________________________________________________________ A bus full of middle school students was ridding noisily along, on their way to the Starlight Observatory just outside of a town in Michigan. Among these noisy students was a young girl who seemed to really stick out in a crowd. She looked like she was fourteen-years-old. She had thick, shimmery-black hair that flowed down her back and nearly touched her knees. Her eyes were a deep-soulful shade of hazel. Her face was soft and beautiful in a serious sort of way. She was wearing a silver skirt and vest over a white blouse that complimented her curves. The young lady had an aura about her that made everyone around her feel at peace. The girls name was Sara. And she had always felt different and out of place among her fellow classmates. Sara stared out of the bus window. She squinted against the sun and looked up ahead. Sara sighed with relief when she saw the observatory just up ahead. The long ride had made her joints rather numb and she felt very tired. She could hardly wait to get out of the over-crowded bus to stretch and get some air. The bus turned into the parking lot and stopped right in front of the entrance to the observatory. All the students quickly stood up and push their way into a line to get off of the bus. The teachers tried to get the students to exit the bus in an 'orderly' fashion, but the students were to anxious to get of the bus and just ignored the teacher's commands and piled out. When Sara exited the bus she let out yet another sigh of relief and breathed in the fresh air. Then she took a good look at her surroundings. The observatory was surrounded by shrubs and all assortments of flowers. There was also a beautiful water fountain that featured water nymphs near the entrance. The Starlight Observatory itself was painted a silvery-blue. The building looked like it was about four stories high. Sara thought that the observatory was absolutely amazing. And she hadn't even gotten a good look at the inside of the building yet! Sara glanced over at the entrance, again. That's when she saw a strange young woman walk out the door of the observatory. The young woman had greenish-black hair and magenta eyes. She was very tall. When Sara looked at her she felt as if she had met the woman before even though she knew that she hadn't. Who was she? Why did the woman make her feel so nervous all of a sudden? Something strange was going on. This Sara knew for a fact. The green haired woman didn't walk past the group of students the way Sara had expected her to. Instead she walked right up to the group of talkative middle school students. Then she clapped her hands to get the attention of everyone and smiled at them. "Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Starlight Observatory. My name is Susanna Peterson, but you all can call me Sue. I'm going to be your tour guide for the day, and before we begin I just want to go over our schedule for today. First of all, we'll be going through the history museum. Then we'll get to take a look at the telescope and meet some of the scientists that work here. After that you've all been invited to attend the Starlight Observatory 20th Anniversary Banquet. Now lets go inside and get started," Sue told the group of students, and then led the way indoors. Sara was completely amazed by the beautiful architecture of the building. The observatory had a classical feel to every room in the building. Paintings that portrayed mystical animals and heavenly palaces that had scenery that made one believe that the palaces were really on the other planets. All of the furniture and such had a universal theme. The Starlight Observatory was most definitely not what Sara had expected. Sara enjoyed going through the museum, loved talking to the scientists, and had fun with the telescope demonstration. When the time came for the banquet Sara was exhausted and extremely hungry. When her class finally entered the banquet room everyone was shocked to see the room. The decorations were enough to take anyone's breath away. As everyone got seated Sara made her way towards Sue. She had a few questions to ask. When Sara finally got through the crowd of students, employees, and other people she tapped Sue on the shoulder to get her attention. "Why is everything so..... breath-taking here?" she asked, and waited patiently for the answer. "Didn't I tell you? This place used to be a palace, of a sort. It is actually a mansion that was built by a rich man in the 1800's. I'm not completely sure why this place was made into a observatory, but I'm glad it was," Sue said pleasantly. "Thank you," Sara said. Then she walked away to find herself a seat. When everyone had taken their seats waiters and waitresses worked their way through the room and took everyone's orders for lunch. Sara decided to order seafood for lunch, while most people decided to have chicken or steak. It was a very expensive party the Starlight Observatory was throwing. While everyone chattered cheerfully as they waited for their meals to arrive, a handsome man who looked like he was in his early twenties stepped out of the shadows, and headed towards the podium at the front of the room. He had midnight black hair, and deep chocolate brown eyes. Something about the man didn't seem quite right to Sara. He seemed very carefree and arrogant, but he also seemed...threatening. Sara didn't like him. Not one little bit. The man stepped up to the podium an spoke into the microphone. "Hello everyone, and welcome to the Starlight Observatory 20th Anniversary Banquet. My name is Eric Eastman. I'll be your host for today. If you have any questions or something goes wrong just let me know." Mr. Eastman told everyone. He continued on into a speech, but after awhile Sara zoned out. After a few minutes of talking, Mr. Eastman stepped down from the podium, and a band started to play some lively music. Some people went down to the open area in front of the band, and started to dance. Sara wasn't among them. She paid more attention to the appetizers that had arrived than anything else. After awhile Sara looked up from her plate and noticed that everyone around her had fallen asleep. As a matter of fact she was feeling a little sleepy herself..... Sara jerked herself awake just in time and looked around. Something was wrong. Why did everyone fall asleep? Then she heard a crash behind the door to the storage room, that was located behind the band. Sara jumped out of her chair and rushed towards the door. She saw that all of the band members were also asleep. Except for one. And that band member was glowing. His eyes were closed, and he was still playing his instrument softly. All of a sudden going past the band and through the door didn't seem like such a good idea. Sara heard someone scream behind the door, and then there was a dull thud as someone crashed to the floor. Then evil laughter echoed through the room. She had to do something. Someone was getting hurt back there. Sara took another step towards the door, and then another. She kept on walking, as quiet as a cat, until she was right in front of the glowing person...or thing. Then the mans eyes flew open and all Sara saw was the red of pure evil and hatred in his eyes. The things mouth curled back into a fierce smile. A scream raised in Sara's throat, but it was cut off before a sound even came out, when the evil creature pounced on her. Her last thought before she hit the ground was that she refused to give up without a fight. END OF CHAPTER 1
