Title: Pluto's Love Author: ChibiSerenity E-mail: plstcfish@aol.com Rating: G Okay, I should have written Part Three of Blind Date, but I wasn't in the mood. Sorry. I hope you like this story though!! Disclaimer: Sailor Moon isn't mine. The story is. I got the idea from a picture I saw, but I explain that at the bottom. I don't want to give anything away, even though most likely you'll guess by the second paragraph. I've learned that everyone figures out stuff faster than me. I read Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier (or something like that) and took me forever to figure out what was with the mystery, even though everyone else I knew got it way earlier than me. If that doesn't make sense, it's because I'm trying not to give anything away from that great mystery book. I'm really rambling, so here is my story. Pluto's Love Meiou Setsuna was the Senshi of Time ever since she was born. She did not even know when that was, it was so long ago. She had always known what was to happen, when things were going to end. At first she had tried to have friends, but it hurt too much. She knew that she would live on for countless ages while her friends would die. She knew when her friends would die and how. She had tried to change her friends deaths without disrupting the delicate fabric of time, but it was impossible. Time was so fragile that if the smallest thread waas removed, it would have terrible repricussions. Setsuna knew how important it was that the flow of Time not be disturbed. It had hurt when she decided she couldn't keep away her friends's death, but it hurt more now. She had always known of the life of one called Usagi Tsukino, or Princess Serenity. She knew that this girl's life was one of the most important lives in all of Time. This girl would save the Earth numerous times and christen Crystal Tokyo, a place filled with light and love and happiness. She knew that Serenity needed to marry Mamoru Chiba, or Prince Endymon, and they had to have a child named Rini. If this did not happen, Setsuna barely dared to think of the consequences. She knew the importance of this girl and her husband, but it still did not put the feelings of wanting to change time to rest. Setsuna sank down to the ground and covered her face with her hands. No. She was the Senshi of Time, and this could not happen. She would not let it happen!! She refused to fall in love, yet it had happened. And what was more, this love could never be realized, or even openly expressed. It was forbidden. Not by any other person, but by herself. She knew that if this love was realized, the consequences would be disasterous. She sobbed. For the first time in millenia, Setsuna cried. Setsuna rarely visited the mortal realms, for fear of making friends, like she had so long ago. Friends that she would have to watch die, knowing she could do nothing about it. However, she visited the Court of Earth for the christening of the child Terra, the younger sister of the prince Endymon. She could not come as herself of course, as the Earth people had not yet made contact with the moon, and did not know about her. They did not know about any of the senshi. She disguised herself as a Lady Sara, visiting from her father's fief (that's like a manor) in a secluded part of the country. It was working wonderfully, and she was actually enjoying herself. Lady Sara was getting a reputation for being rather cold, but Setsuna didn't mind. She only knew she could not allow herself to have friends here, for then she would be forced to undergo the pain of seeing them taken away. Most of the court learned to keep their distance. Most of the court. Prince Endymon saught her out. Setsuna did not know why Prince Endymon had taken care to be friendly towards her even after she had made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him. The first time they had met was in the palace rose garden. She had been admiring a rose of a particular deep red shade, when she heard steps behind her. She turned around to see Prince Endymon bowing respectfully. "Lady Sara, it is a pleasure to run into you. I have been meaning to talk with you." Setsuna was very suprised. "I thank you for your kindness, highness, but I am quite busy." said Setsuna coldly, admiring the crimson rose. "Do you fancy that rose?" asked Endymon. He would not give up. Maybe that was one of the qualities that made him such a good leader in the future. "It's interisting. Such a dark shade." said Setsuna, meaning to walk away briskly. But Endymon stopped her. "Then I insist you keep it." he said, pulling out from among the other roses and handing it to her. Setsuna took it and their fingers touched. Setsuna meant to reject the rose and turn away, but for some reason she did not. She nodded her head, a slight smile on her lips. "I thank you, your Highness." Endymon smiled outright, his blue eyes twinkling at her. Setsuna almost gasped in astonishment, amazed that he would show such enthusiasm for her. She had lived many millenia in solitude after she realized she could not have friends, hiding behind a cold exterior whenever she ventured into populated areas. She had not seen a truly kind smile directed at her since.... since her friends. All commen sense told her to immediantly walk away and vanish to her lonely post at the gate of time, but she had missed human companionship more than even she knew, and stayed. She and Endymon walked through the rose garden, talking and laughing. Setsuna felt her defenses drop as she walked with Endymon, enjoying the first real companionship she had experienced for ages. Setsuna stayed longer that she meant to with the Court of Earth, mainly to enjoy the feeling of friendship with Endymon. They became fast friends, against Setsuna's own better judgement, and they often spent all afternoon together. Setsuna was so wrapped up in having a good friend after so many lonely centuries that she did not notice the soft looks that might have betrayed Endymon's wish for something other than friendship. Ifshe had noticed these looks, these slight touches of the hand, she might have done something to stop the seeds of love before they blossomed. But she did not notice Endymon's feelings, at least not conciously. Unconciously, she noticed and responded. For what had begun as friendship, Setsuna now realized had blossemed into love. The first time Setsuna had recognized her love for Endymon was a night of the new moon. In the rose garden Setsuna and Endymon sat on a stone bench, admiring the roses. The light of the stars shone above them, and Setsuna felt a sense of calm. As she enjoyed the peacefulness of the night, a smile on her lips, something happened that had not been forseen in the fabric of time. Endymon took her chin in his hand and kissed her. Setsuna's first reaction was to violently pull away, and maybe slap him firmly across the face. But she did not. She closed her eyes and allowed Endymon to embrace her, enjoying the safety she felt in his arms. She knew this was not supposed to happen. Endymon could not love her, and she could not love him. Yet it was happening. She was screaming to herself *Get up and leave!!! You must not disturb the fabric of time!!* Yet she could not. When she felt Endymon urg her lips open she opened them, allowing his tounge to taste her. Embracing the feeling of weakness, yet strength, that she felt with him. It was not friendship. No, it was much more than friendship. More beautiful than friendship. It was love. When the kiss had ended, Setsuna looked up at Endymon. The love in his eyes was evident, and he kissed her forehead. Setsuna settled back against his chest. "I love you, Lady Sara." Endymon whispered. Setsuna smiled. "I love you too, Prince Endymon." He grinned and held her possessively. Neihter one knew how many hours passed with the two of them just sitting together in silence, feeling the warmth of love. Then Setsuna noticed a faint pink light in the distance. Dawn. She sat up, startled. Endymon got up, grabbing her hand. "I must go, Endymon. Dawn is approaching fast." "Farewell then, my love. But I am loathe to let you go." "And I am loathe to have to leave you, my love. But I must." "Must you?" asked Endymon, a serious gleam in his eye. "Yes." said Setsuna, knowing she ought to leave now, but not able to make her legs obey her. "Sara, I love you. I never want to let you go. Please..." he dropped down to one knee. Setsuna knew what was to come next. "Prince Endymon, before you speak another word, be sure of what you say. Do not say it unless you know you will never regret it as long as you live." "I am sure, Setsuna. More sure about this than anything ever. Marry me, I beg of you." His eyes were pleading, and Setsuna wanted nothing more than to say yes and allow him to envelope her in his arms, but she did not. Endymon had to marry Princess Serenity. They had to be reborn as Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba, get married, and found Crystal Tokyo. Setsuna was unsure, and the look of pain in Endymon's eyes was killing her. She did something she had sworn never to do except for in emergencies, and stopped time. Now here she was, sobbing. Time had still not resumed, because she had not yet decided what to do. She could marry Endymon, and be happy. At least until Endymon met Serenity. Then she would lose him, for Setsuna knew that Endymon could not really love her. He was destined for Serenity, and what he felt for her was some sort of crush, some sort of puppy love. Nevertheless, if he did not meet Serenity, this crush could grow into the same solemn love Setsuna felt for Endymon. Setsuna knew she could travel through time, making the minute changes to keep Earth from making contact with the Moon until after Endymon's lifetime. To keep him from ever meeting Serenity. But then the fabric of Time would be torn so greatly it could never be repaired. Not only would Crystal Tokyo never be founded, but the Silver Millenium would never reach its highest point. Setsuna knew she would gladly give up her duty as the Guardian of Time for a life, no matter how short, with Endymon. She would never hurt Endymon. She loved him. But she could not give up her duty. She could not live a normal life, with friends and with love. She was destined to stay alone for her whole life, guarding the gate of time. She knew what she had to do. She had to tell Endymon no, and let him continue life. Let him find Serenity. She would say no. Setsuna looked at his blue eyes, so hopeful. So loving. She could not shatter the fragile heart that Endymon possessed, could not cause him pain. "Screw Time!!!!"She screamed, standing up. She loved Endymon. She had never realized how powerful love was. She wanted Endymon to hold her head while she sobbed, to stroke her hair and kiss away her tears. She could have that. She would have that. It was not fair that she should be denied even the simplest joy in life, just because it was her duty. She deserved affection. She deserved love. Everyone did, and it was not fair for her duty to ask her to give up Endymone. To give up her happiness. Setsuna had lived millenia, eons, and never felt the fervor and love she felt for Endymon. She would say yes. As she started resuming time she saw a vision. She saw Endymon, his eyes filled with an even deeper love than he felt for her. He was looking at Serenity, and the two were happier than she had ever seen any two people. She had seen them together before, but never had she understood the extent of their love for each other. She somehow knew that Endymon would never feel that same love for her, never feel the same happiness with her. He would be happy, but if she allowed Time to take its course, he would be happier. She could not deny him that happiness, that love. She could not deny him Serenity. She would have thrown away her duty for a life with Endymon, but she could not throw away his happiness. She could not allow him to never meet Serenity and never feel the love he could feel looking into her eyes. No matter how much it hurt Setsuna, she could not deny him like that. Yet she could not hurt him by saying no. Setsuna looked at her Time Staff (AN: I don't know what this is really called. You know, the thing that looks like a key that she's always carrying) and she knew what she had to do. She could not spare herself the pain of feeling love Endymon, but she could spare him from feeling love for her. She could go back in time and make it so they never met, never became friends. Never fell in love. In the 20th century there would be a saying, "It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all." She ought to meet the person who came up with this. Maybe they could understand her sorrow, and console her. Explain the saying to her. She opened the Time Gate and traveled to the time when she had met him, standing in the rose garden. "Do you fancy that rose?" asked Endymon, as she admired the dark red rose in front of her. Setsuna held back sobs. "No. If you would excuse me, your highness, I am afraid I must get back to my fiance." Setsuna ran off, biting her lip savagely to keep from crying. Endymon never felt hurt, only suprised. He had never heard of the Lady Sara having a fiance. He never saw her again. All that remained of the love he had once had for Setsuna was his distinct love for red roses. Okay, very serious and sad. Not my usual type of writing at all. But what can I say, I have a serious side too. If you like it, write me. Maybe I'll inlude more about Setsuna (she's my fave senshi. So mysterious, you know? Why does she stay all alone like that?) if you guys want to hear it. You know, about her friends or something. Or, if you can come up with an idea how she can fall in love with someone else and have a happy ending ( I still adore happy endings) E-mail me. Or write it yourself. Well, I'm going to include some stuff I wanted to put in the beginning but didn't. I got the idea from a picture saw on this website actually! (A Sailor Moon Romance) It was a picture of Endymon's head, Serenity's head, and Setsuna's head. At first I thought...oh, it's because Endymon and Serenity's love will last through all time and Setsuna is the senshi of time. Then I looked at the little title thing of the picture which was something like triangle.jpg. And so, my wonderful little mind thought, love triangle? Setsuna and Endymon. Hmmmmmm. Maybe it's been done before, but if it was I didn't copy it. Well, see ya Minna-chan. I'll try and write somehting more cheerful next time. -ChibiSerenity
