Chapter 14: Glide Speed Approach to Battle: Enter Scholar Sailor Moon
Hiya, it's just little ol' me, Chibi-Mamoru Darien Chiba.
I'm back at it again!!! The world of Sailor Moon belongs
to Naoko Takeuchi; I'm just borrowing it for my story
which is mine. The Sailor Scouts' daughters and the
Outers' fathers Griffith, Kerwin, and Zaccheus and the
Adaptation Sceptre are also mine. Lion-O and the
Sword of Omens are the brain children of Rankin-Bass
Entertainment and Lorimar Telepictures. Okay?
Royal Palace: July 14, 2996, 5 am
"Reenie . . . Reenie," a voice whispers. I rise to
as much of a crouch position as my chains allow me.
"Ariadne," I whisper weakly. Ariadne appears from
the magma.
"What happened to you, Reenie?!!?" Ariadne gasps.
"Who did this to you!?!?"
"My mommy had me chained in my room with no food!!"
I wail. "It's been two days since I last ate."
"Oh, my!!!" Ariadne heaves. "I wanted to tell you
that I located the intruders that we warned Shelly and
Sandra about a couple of days ago. They're at Clyde
River, Northwest Territories, Canada. I told Shelly and
Sandra this through their dreams before I came to you,
Reenie." I bow my head sadly. Ariadne picks my head up
and says, "Cheer up, Reenie. I have a feeling that
you'll be free before too long. When that happens, get a
good breakfast in your belly and hightail it out to the
main garden. Clotilda and I will be waiting for you."
Sure enough as Ariadne predicted, my mom Neo-Queen
Serenity saw fit to release me from my bondage. She, my
dad King Endymion, and I have a good breakfast. When I
am finished, I get up and start to head out when:
"Reenie!!! Where are you going?!!" Serenity
barked.
"Have you already forgotten why your mother had you
chained in your room, Small Lady?" Endymion asked me in
an icy tone of voice.
"No, your majesty, I have not forgotten," I told
Endymion. "I'm going out into the main garden to play."
I then rush out into the main garden before Serenity and
Endymion get the chance to say anything else to me.
Royal Palace Main Garden: July 14, 2996, 8 am
Man, am I glad to get away from those creeps!!!
First order of business when my reign over Crystal Tokyo
begins: get rid of Endymion and Serenity!!!! That'll
show them!!! "Pssst!!! Princess!!!" a voice called to
me from a bush. Two circles of deep red and yellowish
green greet me.
"Ariadne!!! Clotilda!!!" I cried out happily when
I recognize who's in the bush. Ariadne and Clotilda come
out of hiding and look me over.
"You don't look worse for wear, Reenie," Clotilda
remarked. "You OK?"
"Just plotting a way on how to pay my parents back
for all they've done for me, Clotilda," I replied.
"I have good news, Reenie," Ariadne told me. "It
has been decided that I am to be on your court!!" I hug
Ariadne and welcome her aboard. Clotilda then does
likewise.
"Guys, we don't have much time," I reminded Ariadne
and Clotilda. "We don't know what date my parents have
set for me to go against the Outers' kids."
"Right!!" Clotilda agreed with me as she and
Ariadne call for their transformation rings and put them
on. "Jupiter quasar power, blast off!!!!" A lightning
strike later, Ensign Jupiter stands ready for
combat.
"Mars quasar power, blast off!!!!" Ariadne cried.
A fireball engulfs Ariadne and when it subsides, Ensign Mars stands fired up for combat.
"Moon prism power!!!!" I yelled. A flash of light
later, I'm Sailor Moon. Stacking my fists one on top of
the other, I think, 'Form Adaptation Sceptre.' A beam of
dirty orange light forms between my hands and becomes the
Adaptation Sceptre's handle as I pull them apart. The
bulb containing the Adaptation Amethyst forms soon after
the handle does.
"This won't hurt, will it?" Ensign Mars
asked me.
"Don't worry; you won't feel a thing," I assure
Ensign Mars as I touch the business end to her
heart. "Adaptive Assimilation!!!" As I download Little
Sailor Mars's powers into the Sceptre, I come upon many
fond memories of Raye and Chad actually spending time
with Ariadne. Chad works as an accountant in downtown
Crystal Tokyo and that, of course, puts a real ceiling on
how much time he can spend with Ariadne, but he
compensates by emphasizing quality in what little time he
can. "You got it going on," I tell Ensign Mars
when the Sceptre finishes. "I envy you."
"I have thought the same of you, Sailor Moon,"
Ensign Mars smiled. I then turn to Ensign
Jupiter and touch the Adaptation Sceptre's business end
to her heart.
"Adaptive Assimilation!!!" I declared. As the
Sceptre does its business, I see many a night of
Clotilda enjoying Lita's cooking in liberal amounts.
Then one day, Clotilda learned she has diabetes. Lita
and Ken took turns checking Clotilda's blood sugar levels
and giving her insulin injections as needed which, to
Clotilda's displeasure and their annoyance, was quite
often. Clotilda suddenly found herself limited to how
much she was allowed to eat at a meal.
"Reenie, are you okay?" Ensign Jupiter asked
me as she gently shakes me to rouse me.
"I can't believe Lita would be so mean as to not
allow you a second helping when one is not enough,
Clotilda," I said sadly as we all detransform.
"A minor inconvenience, Reenie," Clotilda sniffed.
"I was upset at first and threw a major fit the night we
first learned I had diabetes. My mommy and daddy sent me
to bed after supper and spanked me. As I was crying
myself to sleep that night, I did some soul-searching and
slowly began to accept that things had changed and there
was nothing I could do to get things back to the way they
were. As time passed, I realized that in the relative
scheme of things, not being allowed second helpings is
not that important. I feel much better now that I told
you this pain."
"I suppose that if Clotilda can overlook this, you
and I can do likewise, Reenie," Ariadne remarked.
"Yeah, Ariadne, I guess you're right," I yielded.
"So now that I have your powers, what do we do now?"
"CLOOOOOTILLLLLDA!!!! Inspection time!!!!" Lita
bellowed.
"Oh, it's that time again," Clotilda groaned.
"It's at times like this I REALLY hate being a diabetic.
You guys hang tough; this shouldn't take long." Clotilda
then runs for home.
"What are we going to do while we're waiting,
Reenie?" Ariadne asked.
"I don't know, Ariadne," I replied. "I wonder where
Hermione and Cara are."
"I saw them being driven off to the doctor's office
on the way over here," Ariadne told me. "I have no idea
what for, though. Reenie, can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what?" I answered.
"Back at the hotel the other day, how did Sandra,
Shelly, and you know what was happening with Clotilda?"
Ariadne asked me. I unconsciously summon the Adaptation
Sceptre and rotate it thoughtfully. I'm holding the
answer in my hand, but how can I tell Ariadne that the
Sceptre told me? I mean, that's how we were alerted that
Clotilda was in distress, but will Ariadne buy it? Only
one way to find out . . .
"Ariadne, you won't believe this, but the Adaptation
Sceptre told the judges and me that something was wrong,"
I replied. Ariadne looks at me like I have lost my mind.
"I'm serious, Ariadne. I was talking with the judges
about when to take on the Outers' kids when all of a
sudden the Sceptre appears above my head and shines the
symbols for Venus and Jupiter on the floor. When I
grabbed the Sceptre and told it to investigate, I saw
Cara trying to keep Clotilda calm and asking if you and
Hermione have found any sugar. We hightailed it back
upstairs and the rest you know."
"You mean like Lion-O can when he holds up the
Sword of Omens and tells it to give him 'sight beyond sight'?"
Ariadne asked me, wanting to confirm what I just told
her. I nod my head. "Can you check in on somebody?"
"I don't know; I never tried that," I told Ariadne.
"Never tried what?" Clotilda asked.
"Clotilda, you're back," I exclaimed happily as
Clotilda runs up to join us. "We missed ya."
"Sorry, that took longer than usual, Reenie,"
Clotilda apologized. "My blood sugar level was found to
be a bit high and I had to get several shots of insulin
to take care of that. Usually, my mommy or daddy calls
me in and all they do is check my blood sugar level and
either tell me to work harder or take it easy. I'm going
to have to start working out."
"ARIIIIIIADNE!!!!!! Nap time!!!" Chad shouted.
"I don't wanna take a nap!!!" Ariadne pouted,
stomping her foot in the ground.
"Ooooo, somebody's getting mighty cranky," Clotilda
teased Ariadne. I give Clotilda a sharp nudge to the
ribs. "Ouch, Reenie!! What did you do that for?"
"If Ariadne is getting cranky, don't you think that
it's a good idea not to make fun of her anymore?" I
reasoned.
"Will you guys get off it!?!?" Ariadne wailed as
she jumps up and down. "I'm not cranky!!!! I just don't
like being teased when I'm told it's time for my nap!!!"
Chad walks up and carries Ariadne off. "Daddy, I'm not
tired," Ariadne protests as she starts crying.
"Oh, you aren't, huh?" Chad challenged as Ariadne
yawns wide enough to see her tonsils.
"Is this going to happen often?" I asked Clotilda.
"Tsk tsk, Ariadne says that she doesn't like being teased when it's her naptime," Clotilda told herself out loud. "I don't think she likes taking naps, period."
"Clotilda!!!" I yelled as I shake Clotilda, annoyed that she has gone off into her own world.
"Yes, Reenie? Did you say something?" Clotilda replied.
"Is this going to happen often?" I asked Clotilda again.
"What do you mean, Reenie?" Clotilda wondered, not
understanding what I'm getting at.
"One of you guys leaving because it's your naptime,"
I told Clotilda. Clotilda pauses a moment to ponder her
reply.
"Well . . ., I know for *sure* that Claribel and
Cecelia don't take naps in the middle of the day unless
they do something that really wears them out," Clotilda
told me. "However, Irvette and Cleopatra sometimes take
short naps during vacations that last more than two days
and when they aren't feeling well, but this isn't very
often. But in the case of Hermione, Ariadne, and Cara,
you can bet that sooner or later, they'll be called in to
take a nap. That also goes for me too. But that'll
change when we get older."
"That's not fair," I said in a disgruntled tone.
"Hey, choose the lesser of two evils, Reenie: your
playtime with Hermione, Ariadne, Cara, or me being
interrupted by our folks calling us in to take a nap
or your playtime uninterrupted with the risk that a fight
may break out because we're tired," Clotilda
sighed, a bit annoyed. "I don't know about you, but I
prefer the first one."
"Sorry, Clotilda," I apologized. "Speaking of
Cecelia, Irvette, Claribel, and Cleopatra, what can you
tell me about them?"
"Well, first of all, Cecelia, Irvette, and Claribel
can shoot out their mothers' main attacks many times in
succession," Clotilda told me.
"Yeah, I know," I agreed with Clotilda. "They can
do up to groups of seven and shoot off as many as they
want."
"You mean eight, Reenie," Clotilda corrected. I
look at Clotilda questioningly. "Yes, Reenie, you heard
me right. Irvette learned the verb to multiply by eight
just yesterday. Ariadne told me about how Sailor Pluto
visited in your dreams when you were unconscious. Do you
really think that she was doing that to help you?"
"Yes," I said. "Sailor Pluto loves me and wants me
to be prepared."
"I see that Sailor Pluto has done a good job,"
Clotilda smiled at me and then her face turning to a
skeptical scowl, "thus far. Remember, Reenie, things
will really pick up when you go against Cecelia. Let me
show you something." Clotilda then reaches into the
breast pocket on her jumper and produces a package of
chalk. She drags me to the pathway and draws a vertical
line and a horizonal line using white chalk. Then using
orange, blue, red, and dark green chalk, Clotilda then
makes dots and connects them using the white chalk.
"Okay, Reenie, here is a graph that shows the relative
difficulty of defeating each of us assuming nothing goes
wrong. The orange dot is Cara, blue; Hermione, red;
Ariadne, and dark green; yours truly. The vertical line
is difficulty. What does that tell you?" I look at the
graph and see that the blue and red dots are farther away
from the horizontal line than the orange dot, with the
latter being closer than the former. The line Clotida
drew resembles a hill with the peak being the red dot.
"You're slightly harder to defeat than Hermione and
Cara are," I remarked.
"Yeah, and Ariadne is the hardest to defeat of the
four of us," Clotilda agreed. "See how the difficulty
level rises as you proceed further in the tournament,
Reenie. But now let's add in the Outers' kids."
Clotilda then produces yellow, light green, black, and
violet chalk and holds each up before making a dot
saying, "Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Saturn." She then
makes a dot of each on the pathway and connects the dots
with white chalk. I gasp when Clotilda finishes. The
dot representing Cecelia is very far away from the
horizontal line meaning I'll have a very difficult battle
with her.
"Cecelia is THAT tough?!?" I asked Clotilda.
"Yep, Cecelia is *that* tough, Reenie," Clotilda
answered, raising her eyebrows to emphasize the word
'that.' "Her powers govern everything in the sky and
outer space. That means thunder and lightning and
cyclones as well as gravity, comets, and even the stars
themselves. Something I've seen Cecelia use a lot are
her Uranus Thunder Mines. When Cecelia says 'Uranus
Thunder Mine, electrocute,' get ready to dodge because
her Mines are very fast once they're thrown and once they
attach to you, they'll electrocute you. The Thunder
Mines can also explode and destroy things. All she has
to do is say 'detonate' instead of 'electrocute.' She
may also walk up and plant the Mine on whatever she wants
to blow up or electrocute. But for this tournament,
she'll use her Thunder Mines to electrocute you. Anyway,
here's the list of her attacks and those of Irvette,
Cleopatra, and Claribel." Clotilda then hands me a list.
I gasp at the vast number of attacks Cecilia and Irvette
have. It's hard to tell what some of these attacks do
just from their names. Claribel and Cleopatra each have
quite a few impressive-sounding attacks of their own in their arsenal. Wow!!!
"Dang, I've never seen so many attacks!!!" I told
Clotilda. "Neptune Tectonic Turbulence, Red Tide Rush, Uranus Sky Comet
Celerity, Cereberus Concussion, Gravity Crunch . . ."
"Daunting, isn't it?" Clotilda winked at me.
"What do all these attacks do, Clotilda?" I asked.
Clotilda breaks out in laughter at my remark. "What's so
funny?"
"I'm laughing at the fact that you're expecting me
to just sit here and rap off all of those attacks to you,
Reenie," Clotilda said between fits of laughter. "I had
a deal with the Outers' kids. They agreed to tell me the
commands that launch those attacks and not be so hard on
you if I promised not to tell you what I've seen those
attacks do. If I don't keep my word, they won't keep
theirs. Besides, what good would I be doing you by
telling you what these attacks do anyway? These attacks
all happen so fast that you probably won't have time to
get scared before they hit you." My face falls. "Look,
Reenie, there is a silver lining. It takes a while for
the Outers' kids to recover from launching the listed
attacks, so if they miss you, you can attack them using
hand-to-hand combat without fear of reprisal if you're
quick enough of foot and mind. And given your fight with
Ariadne, I doubt that you have the emotional stability
necessary to fight effectively against the Outers' kids."
"But I defeated you, didn't I?" I challenged
Clotilda. "I hung in there against your fiercest
attacks. You tried to frighten me into giving up, but I
kept at it and scored the three points I needed to win
one point at a time."
"Yes, Reenie, you did prove to be a formidable
opponent," Clotilda agreed. "I have faith that you'll do
no less against the Outers' kids when the time comes to
take your turn against them. But still, I can't help but
to worry about Cecelia getting the better of you with her
vast sky- and space-based quasar-driven powers. I don't
know; I may be worrying about nothing. Cecelia is also
good at hand-to-hand combat, Reenie. Of course,
Hermione, Cara, Ariadne and I as well as Irvette,
Claribel, and Cleopatra all are as well; otherwise we
would be of no use to you as your court." Clotilda
smiles and begins laughing and I follow suit.
"Ahem, girls," my mom Neo-Queen Serenity
interrupted. Clotilda and I both jump in surprise.
"Your mother just called and she wants you home for lunch,
Clotilda."
"Aww, nuts!!!" Clotilda groaned. "Do I have to?"
"Yes, I'm afraid you do, Clotilda," Serenity replied.
Clotilda sadly sighs and packs up her chalk.
"Bye, your majesty," Clotilda waved.
"See you later, Clotilda," Serenity waved back.
"Thanks a heap, Clotilda!!" I called. Clotilda
replies that I'm welcome and heads home.
Royal Palace: July 14, 2996, 12:30 pm
Serenity had taken me inside because it was
lunchtime. Strangely enough, Endymion, Serenity, and I
eat lunch in total silence. I gobble my lunch down and
get ready to take off to go play when Endymion barked,
"Hold it *right* there, young lady. I want to talk to
you." I gulp nervously thinking that I'm going to get in
trouble for Clotilda's artwork on the pathway.
"It's nothing like that, Reenie," Serenity said,
"but it is important. The judges paid us a visit
yesterday. They were concerned that you may be trying
to bite off more than you can chew. And since you were
chained up at the time, your father and I had to act on
your behalf. We want you to have a good chance of
winning the tournament."
"That's very considerate of you, Mommy," I thanked
Serenity.
"From what I hear, the Outers' kids are much more
difficult to beat than the Inners' kids, Reenie,"
Endymion said. "Especially Cecelia. I hope that you
will be able to compete effectively."
"Yeah, I know, Daddy; Clotilda told me," I agreed
with Endymion. "She told me that if I successfully avoid
the Outers' kids' attacks, I could attack them with hand-to-hand combat
while they charge back up if I'm quick enough of mind and body."
"It also seems that Clotilda is a bit concerned that
even if you're in peak condition as Sailor Moon, you may
not have the agility necessary to defend yourself against
the Outers' kids' speedy attacks, Reenie," Serenity said.
"But what did you guys tell the judges?" I asked.
"We told them that you and your friends visited them
without our permission and that we were punishing you for
your part in the offense, Reenie," Serenity replied.
"Sandra said that it was a very assertive but
irresponsible gesture for you to visit Shelly and him to
discuss how you wanted to handle the second half of this
tournament. When Raye and Chad were here with the judges
and us to discuss Ariadne, they were wondering what the
heck you girls were doing in the forest near Cherry Hill
Temple the other day."
"Did Shelly mention anything about how the girls'
parents reacted when she brought them home, Mommy?" I
asked Serenity.
"Shelly said that Lita, Mina, Raye, and Amy were all
emotional when she got the girls home, but as soon as she
turned to leave, she could hear them shouting at their
daughters for worrying them to death," Endymion said.
"Of course, when I learned that Sandra and Shelly had
left your friends alone in their room to take a nap, I
dressed them down very harshly for being so careless.
But I couldn't stay mad when Shelly told me that she and
Sandra saved Clotilda's life. It's for that reason Lita
and Ken are not pursuing child abuse and neglect charges
against them."
"Raye, Chad, Mina, Alan, Amy, and Greg have pressed
charges against them for their negligence," Serenity
added. "At my suggestion, they dropped the charges, but
I made it clear that if it happens again, I will
reinstate the charges and have them prosecuted to the
fullest limits of the law."
"After that, we had a pow-wow about how to handle
you going against the Outers' kids, Reenie," Endymion
explained. "We needed to find a way to wrap this up in a
timely fashion without stressing you out too much. How
would you like to fight Cecelia and Irvette three days
from now and Claribel and Cleopatra the day after?" I
consider Endymion's proposal. I'm in no condition to
take on anyone right now, especially anyone like the
Outers' kids, but I don't want give them time to hone
their skills to the point where they may prove impossible
to defeat. Then again, the Outers' kids have to take a
break from their training sometime and may be resting
now. Even with extra training, I doubt that I can handle
them. But seeing as I have no other choice, I ratify
Endymion's proposal and retire to my chambers to take a
short nap.
Reenie's chambers: July 14, 2996, 2 pm
"Reenie, wakey wakey," a feminine voice whispered in
my ear. I wake up to find Serenity standing over me.
"Mommy, I'm so tired," I yawned.
"Reenie, you stay right there," Serenity said as she
leaves the room and comes back with a thermometer. "Put
this under your tongue, honey." Serenity then takes my
pulse. I start to ask Serenity just what the heck does
she think she's doing when she puts her hand on my
forehead and says, "Reenie, it's not like you to take
naps. Does your tummy hurt? Do you feel like you want
to throw up?" Serenity takes out the thermometer and
studies it. "99.5 degrees . . . slight temperature. I'm
glad it's nothing serious!!!"
"Mommy, I want Diana," I told Serenity. "I miss
her."
"I know, pumpkin," Serenity sympathized with me,
"but Diana is being observed for rabies right now and she
can't be with you right now. I'm sorry." I look at
Serenity and try in vain to blink away a tear.
"I'm so lonely without Diana, Mommy," I sobbed as I
hug Serenity.
"Reenie, I'll be right back," Serenity said quickly
as she leaves. Serenity comes back five minutes later
carrying her cat advisor Luna.
"Serenity, what is the meaning of this?!!" Luna
demanded.
"Luna, could you stay with my daughter for the next
seven days?" Serenity requested.
"Okay, but why, Serenity?" Luna asked.
"Your daughter bit mine seven days ago and is being
observed for signs of rabies, Luna," Serenity explained.
"Reenie needs someone, or should I say, some feline to
talk to. Now I have to some arrange things for the
tournament, so I'll see you later, Reenie." Serenity
then departs after leaving a red compact on my dressing table.
"Luna, what's that?" I asked, pointing to the
compact my mom left.
"Why don't you clip it on your dress and find out,
Reenie?" Luna suggested. I head over and seize the red
compact. I see a yellow crescent moon and a black thing
that Luna tells me is called a mortarboard on the lid. I
clip it on my dress.
"Now what?" I asked Luna.
"Say the words 'Moon quasar scholar power,' Reenie,"
Luna directed.
"What's going to happen if I do?" I asked Luna.
"That compact will transform you into a
faster, trickier, and more agile Sailor Moon, Reenie," Luna
replied. "Your mother and I have been working on
upgrading your powers as Sailor Moon. At first, we were
going to give you the powers your mother had when she was
young, but I disagreed arguing that this would tempt you to use brute force to conquer the Outers' kids. After
she and I overheard you and Clotilda in the main garden
talking about the Outers' kids, we both agreed that
making you trickier, faster, and more agile is best. The
Queen also wants this compact to be her apology to you for
chaining you in your room for the past two days." Now
wait a minute!!! Neo-Queen Serenity just had me chained
in my room and she expects me to just accept the compact
and let bygones be bygones!!! I know how to avenge
myself; I'll take this compact and use its power to show
my parents the fierce warrior I really am!!!! I vow now,
as my name is Reenie Chiba, that I'll fight the Outers'
kids . . . and accept *nothing* less than TOTAL
VICTORY!!!!
"Moon quasar scholar . . . POWER!!!!" I cried. The
compact does its work and less than a second later, I am
the pretty sailor-suited soldier Sailor Moon. Or am I?
I look at myself in the mirror. My cone-shaped buns
still have the red pins and white feathers and my hair is
still pink. The choker's there around my neck and my
bodysuit is white. However, the bow on my chest is black
and the red compact that had transformed me sits clipped over
the center of my chest. The only change in my gloves is
that they are ringed in yellow instead of pink. My skirt
is yellow and while my boots have not changed length,
they are black with red crescent moons all around the
top.
"Reenie?" Luna asked as she pads up to me and rubs
herself on my legs trying to get my attention. I bend
down to pick up Luna and hold her tightly to my chest.
"Oh, Mommy," I sobbed.
"Reenie, is something wrong with your new costume
and enhanced powers?" Luna asked. I put Luna down and
put my head down on my dressing table. "Reenie!!!"
"No, Luna, I like my new costume very much," I
replied as I wipe away my tears. "I'll test out my
enhanced agility and speed later. I feel so icky for
wanting to do away with my mommy and daddy as soon as my
reign over Crystal Tokyo begins. I . . . I've never
wanted to harm them."
"I take that to mean that you have forgiven your
mother for chaining you in your room, your highness?"
Luna wanted to confirm my reply.
"Oh yes, Luna, I do," I said excitedly as I jump up
and down.
THE END
So what do you think? One of you emailed me about the
harsh way Neo-Queen Serenity punished Reenie for being
AWOL last chapter. Well, I hope that by having Neo-Queen
Serenity give Reenie enhanced powers, I was able to
compensate for last chapter's heavily charged ending. I
think Cecelia is in DEEP trouble.
