Incident 6F-1 Well, after Sharon and Kerwin left, I laid down in the bed wrapped in my babyhood blanket and tried to recover some of the sleep I lost. Two hours later, I am awakened by Christine Hotaru Tomoe who just happens to be employed as a nurse at the hospital. She presents some food before me and tells me to eat heartily because that would be my last meal for a while. I gulp nervously at this. Christine explains to me while I'm eating that I will not be allowed to eat or drink anything because if there's anything in my stomach, the anesthesia, or the gas that will place me in a deep sleep, will cause me to vomit it up and I might aspirate it into my lungs. Oh, thanks a lot, Christine; make me lose my appetite, why don't you? I ask Christine what's going to happen when the time comes for my surgery. Christine replies by saying that the one day she doesn't visit me will signal that the time for surgery is near. Well, if I'm going to have to go on a fast, I'd better load my hump. I tell Christine that I might as well pig out and get that urge out of my system while I can. I request another round. Christine leaves the room and returns with a repeat of the same meal that I had before. While I am devouring it, Christine tells me to enjoy this meal because when I finish it, my fast will begin. I try to argue with Christine to get her to change her mind, but it's no use. Christine presents me with a white gown which looks like a big tee shirt and tells me to put it on over my panties. This is such an indignity!!! Christine insists that I change so that she can examine me. "Do you have to watch me change clothes!?!" I snapped at Christine. "Claribel, please get changed so that I can examine you," Christine told me. I glare at Christine and then take the gown in the bathroom. A few minutes later, I come out dressed in the gown and my panties. I set my green shirt, black shortalls, red socks, and black sneakers to one side and Christine takes my temperature using a weird device that looks like that the doctors use to look inside your ears. "35 degrees Celsius . . . very odd," Christine notes. "One would think that body temperature would rise with all the food you just ate." Christine takes my blood pressure. "Not good; much too high." She mumbles something similar of my pulse and suggests that I get out more. She takes down the data and leaves to attend to other duties. I wonder what there is to do around here. I'm bored. I dress into my street clothes and stick my head out the door. Perfect, the coast is clear!!! Now shall I go left or shall I go right? Well, I'm left- handed, so I'll check out the left first. Okay, my room is Room #569. I head out down the hall, careful not to be seen by the doctors, or worse, the nurses. I never liked being around medical personnel or in medical facilities. As I explore my surroundings, I wish to myself that Cereberus were with me. I also wish that I were home with my parents. A sharp noise causes me to jump and stop short. I peek out of the corner of my right eye and find that it's only a crowd of college students. I remember Cleopatra telling me that she and Christine often saw college nursing students or premed students at the hospital. I hide out of sight and yield to them the right of way. The students turn right and head off down the hall in front of me. I too make a right turn and head down the hall they came from. I encounter an elevator and have a debate with myself as to whether or not to use it and, if I do use it, whether to go up or down. I decide to head down. The elevator arrives and out of the elevator steps . . . "Lieutenant Caballero!!!" I cried as I step backwards. "Claribel Mei'ou," Zaccheus said as he advances on me. "What are you going to do to me?" I asked Zaccheus. "Well, Claribel, this can end in one of two ways," Zaccheus replied as he bends down and places his hand on my shoulder. I get really scared at this point. "You can either come quietly with me back to your room and we'll keep this between us or I'll bodily pick you up and carry you back to your room and leave you at the mercy of your parents . . . or lack thereof. The choice is yours." "Well, I don't want to go back to my room; I want to get out of here!!!" I screamed at Zaccheus. "Now let me go!!!" Before I have a chance to regret what I've just said, I find myself hoisted in the air like a sack of potatoes. "Hey, you big gorilla!!! Put me down!!!" "Be quiet, Claribel," Zaccheus ordered as he carries me. "God damn it, I said put me down!!!!" I screamed at Zaccheus. Some meaty male nurses come by in response to my yells that Zaccheus put me down and relieve Zaccheus of me. In Room 569, Kerwin and Sharon stand in the corner and watch as I am strapped to the bed and drugged. "Mommy, Daddy, can you guys get these gorillas to unstrap me? Please?" "If you go out onto the streets and something happens to you, my wife can lose her job, Claribel," Zaccheus said angrily as he glares at me, then at Kerwin and Sharon before leaving. The nurses leave as well. Kerwin and Sharon look as if they're going to blow a gasket. "I'm leaving before I yield to the temptation to do something to you I'm going to really regret later," Sharon whispered to me as she leaves. "Claribel, do you have any idea what trouble you could have caused?" Kerwin asked me. I bow my head in remorse. "Okay, I know that you're scared. The nurses are here to answer your questions. I'll comfort you as much as I can, but damn it, Claribel; you just cannot run off like that." "Papa, it's boring here," I complained to Kerwin. "I know, Claribel," Kerwin agreed. "Hospitals are no fun to be in. I once worked for two straight weeks without sleep or food before marrying your mother." "Did you really?" I asked Kerwin. "Oh, yeah, Claribel," Kerwin replied. "It took me two months to get strong enough to be released. I had to be literally nursed back to health. Ever since then, I put a lot of passion into dating your mother and started training lieutenants to take over for me. I have also put some thought into nominating someone to replace me as President permanently." "Papa, don't do that," I yawned. "What if things don't work out between you and Mama? You'll need that building to retreat to." "Those sedatives are starting to take effect; I'd better go, Claribel," Kerwin said as he rubs my delicate hand. "I love you, Claribel. Good night." "I love you too, Papa," I told the departing Kerwin. "Good night." With that, the sedatives overwhelm me and all becomes black . . .
