Sailor Moon and it's characters are not and never will be mine. *Sob* However, the story is mine! Two quick warnings: I'm a true romantic at heart and, even though Tuxedo Kamen is my favorite character (Love ya Tux!!), I love to make him suffer. Sorry! So if you don't like the thought of a sweet man like Mamoru suffering don't read any further! Enjoy! Love ya! DarkElf Aka: Usabunny *Smile* PS "*" means thinking. Afterall chapter 1 DarkElf usabunny@moonkingdom.com http://clik.to/darkelf19/ Rated: PG Tsukino Usagi laid back into the enveloping warmth of the easychair, rubbing her eyes wearily. A quick glance to the clock revealed that it was a quarter to nine. Mumbling sourly to herself about the time she set the Calculus book aside and walked into her cluttered room to try and find something suitable to wear. After a few indecisive moments she threw on a pair of cream colored dress pants and a light silken blouse. A black belt to contrast the whites and she was out the door, her long blond pigtails swaying as she jogged to the elevator. Shifting her backpack to a more comfortable position as the doors began to close her mind reviewed the day's busy schedule. He stepped of the plane and took a deep breath. One word ran through his mind. *Home*. He looked around at the city before him as if viewing it for the first time. He was overcome with awe and wonder at this bustling city, much like a child who stands at the gates to Disney World afraid to go any farther for fear of waking and finding it all to be a wonderful dream. The icy wind caressed his numb cheeks and he pulled the scarf closer around his neck. *Good to be home, even if it is the middle of winter!* He had to admit that leaving behind a beautiful 85 degree summer for the bitter 35 degree winter of Tokyo wasn't ideal but then again if she was still here, if somehow they could repatch their shattered love...he sighed trying to push her from his thoughts. It didn't work. She was all he had thought about since their breakup almost six years ago. *What was I thinking?!* he scolded himself for the thousandth time. *I had it all and I gave it up for what, a dream? A dream that's been meaningless since I left; no, that's not true. It lost all its meaning the moment I lost her, I just didn't realize it.* Replacing the dark sunglasses over his red eyes, from lack of sleep or unshed tears?, Dr. Chiba headed towards the street in hopes of flagging down a taxi. It was a long walk to the hospital. His masculine figure shillouted by the bright sun caught many a curious eye. He was used to it by now. It'd been a little tiring when he first started but now he knew how to deal with it. *Run. Run far and fast.* Shaking his head causing his short blond hair to rustle in the gentle winter wind Motoki put on a burst of speed and pulled ahead of his quickly gathering fan club. His breath came in short sharp breaths as his long legs stretched to multiply the distance between him and the love sick jr. High girls. The wind rushed against his already frozen face, caressing his numb red cheeks. *Can't stay out here much longer or I'll freeze!* Allowing himself a hearty chuckle he turned the corner planning to head home. Unfortunately he'd been so busy concentrating on his fanclub he never saw the young woman until it was too late. "I'm so sorry Miss," Motoki stammered extending a hand to help her to her feet. She gratefully accepted. As he pulled her to eye level a smile crossed her face. He stood there dumbfounded unable to think let alone speak. Finally he found his voice. "Usagi!" He scooped her into his arms happy to see his friend after months of separation. She laughed throwing her arms around his neck to keep herself from falling yet again. Realizing what he'd done Motoki promptly, yet smugly, returned her to the ground. Usagi took a quick moment to straighten herself out before looking up to meet his eyes once more. *He's still gorgeous. No Mamoru but still cute. Wonder if he kisses as well.* A sly smile crossed her lips and, at that moment, Motoki would've traded anything to find out what she was thinking. He shifted he weight uncomfortably in the silence. Silence that was broken by the sound of the bell tower. The bells rang clear and sharp seven times. A short shriek erupted from Usagi's throat and she quickly excused herself, running as if the hounds of hell were on her tail. Motoki stood there amazed shaking his head slightly. *Some things never change* "Motoki!" Turning he saw his fan club closing in. *Gulp* *I'd forgotten how large this city is!* Mamoru thought miserably leaning against a telephone pole to give his aching feet a break. With the muttered curse he straightened himself preparing to go on when a familiar pair of blond pigtails flew past his face. Startled he turned searching for their owner, and found her. *Usagi!* He watched as she expertly made her way through the crowd. Unable to resist, he followed her, the hospital could wait. *I can't believe how late I am. Mr. Dewbwery's gonna kill me! Shoot, move it people, totally late person coming through!* She came to a abrupt halt at the crosswalk and leaned against the stoplight to catch a few breaths. She found herself thinking about how nice it would've been to get a ride this morning. If she and Mamoru were still an item...but they weren't. So why, after six years, did she still miss him. It was obvious they had nothing in common. *So why do I still love you?* "Hmm...where are you today? What are you doing right now Mamoru?" she murmured looking up at the sky. Her body suddenly tensed as she felt a man's hot breath on her neck. Her eyes opened wide in surprise. "Sneaking up on you Odango Atama." Turning she found herself looking into his soft blue eyes. "Mamo-chan," she whispered feeling all her strength leave her body just by speaking his name. She leaned into him for support. A gesture answered by his strong, tender embrace. She closed her eyes feeling herself melting into him. *It's like a dream. A wonderful dream. He's finally come home and now we can live...* "...happily ever after, my princess." She heard him speak those words and a chill ran down her spine. There'd been a time when she would've died to hear him speak those words, but things change. Now they sounded imprisoning and empty. She stiffened against him and violently pushed herself free. "I have to go. I'm late for school," she spoke icily, her cold blue eyes burning into his. "Good-bye Mamoru Chiba." Her hair sparkled in the bright winter sun as she raced down the street, her tiny feet crunching the tender snow beneath. He stood breathless watching her go. He knew now his hopes had been fantasy. He turned leaving what little dreams he'd had for them at that corner with his broken heart. The end. (Just kidding! Just Kidding! I'd never do that to you! *Grin* Had ya worried, didn't I!) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ *Odango Atama means dumpling head or English version: Meatball Head! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Therefore we take the square root of 6,873 and divided by 793 to get...Miss Tsukino, how nice of you to join us," Mr. Dewbwery spat watching as a very nervous Usagi tried to find an unoccupied seat. "Gomen Nasai, Dewbwery-Sensei," Usagi mummbled quietly as she quickly sat. Grumpily Mr. Dewbwery turned back to his chalkboard mummbling about 'kids'. Sighing Usagi sank back into her chair, attempting to catch her breath, allowing her already frantic moring to reply in her head. *Mamoru's back?! And what was with him?! You'd think he actually liked me or something!* She couldn't hide the smile that suddenly sprung to her lips. "Miss Tsukino!" *Gulp* "Hai?" "First you walk into my classroom late and now you proceed to daydream?! This isn't kindnergarden, this is college! And you must pay attention! Or would you like to be a nothing all your life?!" Mr. Dewbwery spat. "Iil Dewbwery-Sensei..." "Then perhaps you'd like to show the class how to solve this problem, hmm?" Biting her tounge Usagi stood and marched to the chalkboard. Casiously her fingers clenched the white chalk. *Good thing I did my homework!* "Ok. First you...." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ *Sensei means teacher or doctor (Like Mamoru!) *Hai means "yes" while Iil means "no" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Oh! When I get my hands on that Odango Atama..." "Rei settle down." "Yeah. It's bad for your heart!" Rei glared at Minako before seating herself. "I know. It's just that you would think that by now she'd manage to be on time! Afterall, she IS our leader!" Ami smiled sympathetically. "You know very well how busy she is. She probably got sidetracked picking up Chibi-Usa." "Yeah, I guess." Rei replied fiddling with a strand of black hair. Minako turned from her spot at the window. "Guys, maybe it's time for Usagi to step down as our leader." "WhAT?!" Three mouths gaped at her. "Well...it's just that Usagi has been so busy lately, raising Chibi-Usa and attending college, plus working two jobs just to keep things together. She's under a lot of stress and leading the life of a Sailor Senshi isn't helping, let alone being our leader!" Minako walked towards the girls. "Face it. Usagi is a great person but it's too much, even for her." "But...she's just under a lot of stress! It'll pass!" Ami protested. "Ami, she's right." Rei said quietly. "WHAT?! You can't d this!" "She's our Princess Ami. We're supposed to protect her, and that includes form herself. Usagi's stubborn. She'll work herself to death before she admits it's too much. Besides she shouldn't be fighting. It's too dangerous for her." "It's dangerous for all of us!" "But we don't have a child to care for," Rei stated. An uneasy silence creapt into the room. "But...but...it's her destiny." Ami whispered near tears. "It was also her destiny to become Queen and rule her kingdom with Endymion at her side; but that changed, didn't it!" Minako snapped. Silence. A tear rolled down Ami's cheek. Rei hung her head. Makoto's fists clenched in anger. Minako swalloed the lump in her throat. *I have to be strong. I have to see this through. For Usagi.* The sound of padded feet broke the silence. "Konnichi-wa Artemis, Luna." "You told them?" Artemis questioned seating himself next to Luna. Minako nodded sadly. "You understand then?" Sadly the Senshi nodded. Artemis sighed. "Now for the hard part. Telling Usagi." "What if it destroys her?" "What?" Artemis raised his head to look at the motionless Ami. "What if she thinks we're abandoning her, like Mamoru. You remember what it was like don't you?" Ami said queitly. "Yeah. She wanted to die." Rei whispered closing her eyes, not wanting to remember finding Usagi on her bathroom floor covered in her own blood, the razorblade lying at her side. To this day her wrists bore the scars. A tear rolled down her face. "How...how is she doing Luna?" "She still misses him but she's found a way to go on. She's stronger now. Tougher. She's a responsible parent and even made it into college. Usagi in college!" Luna beamed. "But every so often she'll start thinking about him and..." Luna trailed off uneasily remebering Usagi's latest bout of depression. "If I ever see Chiba-san agin," Makoto growled clenching her fists in anger. "And what would you do, kill him? Unlikely." Minako pointed out. "No. No matter what he has done she wouldn't let you. She wouldn't then and she won't now." Makoto nodded grimly knowing this was true. "But not to worry. Like we'll ever see him again!" "HiguyssorryI'mlatebutIhadtodropoffChibi-Usa andDewberymademestayaftertolecturemeabout beinglatebutitwasn'tmyfaultbecauseMamoru wantedtotalkandI..." Luna's head snapped up. "Mamoru?!" Usagi paused in removing her shoes. "Um. Yeah. Mamo-chan's back."
