The gates flew open in response. Two figures appeared in the empty space and stepped out of the darkness into the parallel time. Sailor Pluto's grim face pulled tighter, giving the impression she was smiling if she so willed. "What's the meaning of this, Pluto?" Sailor Uranus demanded. "I'll show you. It all takes time," Sailor Pluto explained. "Well, hurry," Sailor Uranus urged. "Let's get to business." "Be patient," Sailor Neptune replied, placing a hand on Sailor Uranus's shoulder. "Please follow me now," Sailor Pluto ordered, pointing her staff in front of her. Three pools of water rippled before the three young women. The pool of water to the left was bordered with stone, meeting the concrete bordering the middle. The concrete met crystal bordering the right pool of water. "Past is the pool of water on the left. Stone, the primitive development of the time, borders it. The middle is present. Concrete is the development of today. The right is future. Crystal borders it, symbolizing the development of the future." Sailor Pluto pointed to each as she spoke its name. "Crystal?" Sailor Uranus responded with interest. "Shouldn't it be some sort of metal alloy?" "I see you've been watching the movies recently. Do you not remember Crystal Tokyo where Neo- Queen Serenity is to reign?" "Ara," Sailor Uranus replied, a slight blush rising to her cheeks. "My dear, you are blushing," Sailor Neptune stated. "We will be searching the past for now," Sailor Pluto continued as if she were never interrupted. All three kneeled before the stone pool of water, Sailor Uranus noting a glimpse of Neo- Queen Serenity in the crystalline pool. Sailor Pluto touched her staff to the water, making a scene appear before their eyes. They watched the arcade scene. None of the three girls could see the cloaked figure. At the end of the scene, they sat in wonder. Silence sliced through the air. "What just happened?" Sailor Neptune asked quietly. "That's what I need help with," Sailor Pluto replied. "Could you play it again?" Sailor Uranus asked as Sailor Pluto nodded. They watched the scene again, speechless. When the scene ended, the three were just as confused as ever. Sailor Uranus slowly stood from her knees, Sailor Neptune following suit. Sailor Pluto gave a look to suggest speaking their minds before they turned to go. Sailor Uranus and Neptune shook their heads in reply. A peaceful understanding overcame all three. Suddenly, Sailor Uranus turned to go, pulling Sailor Neptune with her. "Keep in touch," Sailor Uranus said quietly before they crossed over the Gates of Time. The two disappeared from the parallel time and appeared again in Tokyo. Powering down, they walked to the arcade to investigate the matter at hand. *** Usagi sneered at herself in the mirror. She looked so childish with her buns. Really, she was wearing odangos at her age? What was she thinking? She understood they were a symbol of the Moon Kingdom, but that was the Moon Kingdom. The Moon Kingdom existed thousands of years ago. Now, she was in the present. She was longer Princess Serenity but Tsukino Usagi. She ripped the ribbons from her hair. Her hair gracefully fell gently around her. She contemplated the different styles she could wear. She could not just leave her hair down, as she would trip. Usagi, concentrating, braided her hair. Disliking the look, she pulled the tie from her hair. Usagi tried many different styles before settling on one. Finally, she pulled her hair into a low knot at the base of her neck. Usagi took one last appreciative look the mirror before turning away. She pulled her schoolbooks out of her bag. She set the books by the side of her bed, keeping the science book in her hand. She would like to read ten chapters ahead of what was scheduled. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>< No cliffhanger this time because I'm adding part two. Go read it, now! I'm ordering you.
