The Unexpected Side Effects of Over use of Bug Spray By Dragonfly Rating= (not sure yet) I DON"T OWN SAILOR MOON!!!!!Or any other strange characters I use in this fic (including scooby-doo!) AN= In case you're wondering, I got the idea for this fic From my experiences from camp. *looks around to see If any spiders followed d-fly home* Good. Coast is clear. But, just in case *pulls out mallet to whack them with* Right, Miri? *mad laughter as d-chan whacks away happily At nothing at all* Okay then! *looks at readers the same way they are looking At d-chan* (in other words, I'm staring at you like you're Crazy!) Enjoy! Oh, and one more note. I may give the names of the Girl campers, but I'm not going to rack my brains for More than 5 guy campers. Okay? Okay. C U @ the bottom! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darien's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay, I admit it. I loved her from the start. Even though the first thing I did to her was put her down. It was completely innocent! I swear! I was standing around with my friends, who I've known since practically forever. Only this year at this camp, we're counselors. No campers here yet, just us for a week, to 'get used to our surroundings'. Okay, where was I? Right. I was standing around with Chad, Greg, Andrew, and Ken when she first walks by. And of course, I stare. Who wouldn't? She was absolutely gorgeous. She had the longest legs that a girl could possibly have, and her golden hair trailed to about her knee. I could have just stared for hours! She just breezed right past me, and didn't say a word. I don't think she really even noticed me! Until Andrew followed my gaze. I swear, I've never been more embarassed. He whistled at her, then practically shouted out, "Hey, Blond Chick, SOMEONE over here has a LITTLE bit of a CRUSH on you!" Of course, by now I was beet red. I wasn't thinking, everyone was staring. So when she, um, Serena turned around, I froze. Then did the worst thing possible! I go and insult the angel. "Ha! On THAT Meatball head? You gotta be kidding me, Andrew." I say, then turn back to the other guys. I can feel the daggers she was glaring into my back as I hear her turn around and storm off, probably completely mortified. Not only her eyes, but everyone else's! I sighed, and glanced over my shoulder as I watched her walk away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serena's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The nerve of that jerk, calling me Meatball Head! *grrrrr* I don't know where I'm going, just somewhere away from that! I don't think I've been more embarassed! Well, there WAS that time where I accidentaly passed gas... DON'T GO THERE, SERE! I thought. Then I realized something. We have our cabin assignments, which just says where we are gonna stay. Those assignments are back where *he* was, and I had to go all the way back. 'Maybe he won't notice me!' I convince myself. Famous last words. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My POV! *whack* MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darien was standing with his back to the assignments, so he never saw Serena coming. Andrew and Ken, however, were standing directly to the list. Serena creeped slowly up to the list, and shot a glance over at Darien. Only to see Andrew and Ken's faces light up in a michevious light. Even though she knew it wouldn't do any good, she shook her head directly at them and made a shushing gesture. "Hey, Darien, you're girlfriend's over there! Why donc'ha go talk to her?" Ken joked, and Serena's eyes widened. 'Play it cool, don't look at him!' she thought, and turned back to the list. "Shut up, Ken. Go bug Lita or something. Or maybe you can tell her about how tough chicks turn you on!" Darien snapped back, enjoying the embarased look on his face. Serena looked at where her name was, and saw that she was staying in Star Meadow. 'That sounds nice!' she thought, and heard someone come up behind her. "Serena Tsukino?" someone said. "Yes?" Serena said, turning around. "Hi! I'm Lita Kino, and I believe these are yours!" Lita said, handing Serena two letters. "Thanks! Where are you staying?" Serena asked, hoping Lita would say Star Meadow. "River Bluff, you?" "Oh. Star Meadow." "LUCKY!! That's the best place to stay. A few bugs, but that's in all the cabins. The stars get so bright there, it's unbelievable!" Serena smiled, then said, "Okay, I'm going to unpack my stuff. Thanks again!" "Welcome! Laters!" Lita said, and Serena walked off. Lita heard snickering coming from behind her, and she turned to see a VERY red Darien over to her. "Hey Darien! What's going on?" She asked, but got no answer. He quickly checked his cabin assignment, then left silently. Lita couldn't contain herself. She had to see where he was staying, and what made him so mad. "Darien Shields, Star Meadow" (an- that was SOOOO predictable) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serena's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 'Ugh, these bags are heavy! I could have sworn that I didn't pack that much!' I think as I struggle to lift my bags out from my car. It must have taken me five minutes to get my bags into the cabin. "Well, first thing's first." I say out loud, then undo my hair, and end up dropping a bobby pen. And the very moment I bend over, someone knocks on the door. Great. Flash city! "Ugh. Who is it?" I say, as I pull myself up and turn around, my hair starting to tickle my ankles. And in the doorway, was the last person I expected to see. If a 2 headed goat with wings were there, I'd be less surprised. That jerk from earlier. What was he doing here, in my cabin? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darien's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 'Ugh. I really hate this climb. Why the heck does Star Meadow have to be at the exact end of all possible roads for this camp? Oh well, I wonder who my co-counselor is. I'll find out soon enough' I think as I top the hill that leads to Star Meadow. Oh yeah, I found out all right! As I come into the clearing, I see this neat little car parked there. It's a pale purple beetle, with a really nice interior. 'Definatly girlish' I think. First thing I did, though, was drop my bag into my cabin. Then look around. Typical bug infested cabin. The daddy-longlegs are already climbing on my bag. 'Oh well, they'll regret it.' I think again as I leave the cabin to see who I'll be spending the next few weeks with. The door to the next cabin was wide open, so of course I'm going to look in, being the curious little guy I am. Legs. That's all I see. Legs and blonde hair. Almost robotically, I knock on the door frame. She's surprised, of course, but that's nothing compared to the look on her face when she realizes who's there. "What are YOU doing here?" She asks, her voice like music to my ears, harsh as her words were. "I'm supposed to be here, silly, and I'm obviously your co-counselor. Need help unpacking?" I ask. "Not any help from you, thank you!" She muttered, and continued to unpack her bag. I just stood there, watching her empty her bag. After a minute she looked up again and said, "What's the matter, do you need an invitation to go back to your own cabin?" "Nah, I just don't believe you when you say you didn't need help. By the way, my name's Darien." I say, and offer my hand out to her. "I'm really sorry about earlier." She looks at it, then at me with a look of 'What kind of a jerk is this?' on her face. She sighed, took my hand, gave it a firm shake and said, "Mine's Serena. Look, if you really want to help, can you put my bag on that shelf over there?" "Okay." I say, grab her bag, and sling it over on to a high shelf above her bed. "Anything else?" I ask. "Nah, thanks!" Serena says, and flops on her bed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serena's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I couldn't help but stare a little wide-eyed when he tossed my bag up there. Talk about some fine tuned muscles! "Anything else?" He asks. "Nah, thanks!" I say, and flop on my bed. I reach over for my current romance novel that I'm reading, and flip to where I left off. It's getting really good! Now if John will confess to Hanna what he really feels... Wait. What is Darien still doing in here? "Do you need an invitation to go back to your cabin now, or what?" I ask, maybe a little bit too impatiently. "Um, no! Sorry. But first tell me what you're reading. Then I'll go. Sigh. "I'm reading 'The Light of the Roses'. It's pretty good! John has loved Hanna for practically forever, but she doesn't know it. She thinks that she hates John, but sooner or later they'll come to terms. Oooh, it's getting good now." Darien had a look on his face kinda like 'Riiiiiiight'. "Well, then, I'll let you get back to your, uh, Romance novel." He said. "Okay. When's dinner?" I ask. Darien checks his watch as he starts to leave the cabin. "In about 30 minutes. I'll walk you down, if you want me to." Sounds pretty reasonable to me, not knowing my way around this camp and all. "Okay. Thanks!" I say, then go back to my book. Sigh. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (authors note) Sigh indeed! To go on, or finish this chapter right here. GO ON!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ D-chan's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darien took a deep breath before knocking on Serena's cabin door. 'It's only to dinner, nothing official!' he thought, nevertheless starting to get a little nervous. "Hang on!" Serena shouted from inside. "I got to find my letters!" "Don't take too long, dinner's in about 10 minutes!" Darien called back. "Okay, okay, I'm coming!" She called back, then stepped out of the cabin. And fortunatly for Darien's pride, right past him, so she couldn't see the dropped jaw and the wide eyes. Serena's hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail, which, of course, hung down past her knees. She had changed shirts to a light blue spagetti strap shirt with bead fringe on the bottom, with a pair of short shorts. He barely managed to regain control of his racing mind before Serena turned around and asked, "Well, are you coming or not!" "Uh, yeah! Sorry. I didn't get much sleep last night." Serena smiled sweetly, and said, "Awww, poor baby! Come on, I'm starved!" And so they made their first entrance, um, "together". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darien's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oooh, Andrew is going to SO get me for this. But, I know he has that crush on Mina, so I think he shouldn't be a problem. "Hey, Serena, let's sit over here. I can introduce you around to my friends." "Okay, sure! I already met this one chick named Lita, she was kinda cool." I nod, and say, "But she's real tough though. Ken has this thing for her something awful." Everyone had already taken their places at our now official table, and all their eyes turned to us. Silence. I could feel my cheeks turning red. "Hey guys! What's up!" I say, and notice Andrew, Ken, Chad, Lita, and Greg trying to hold back a laugh. I give them a look, then say, "This is Serena, and Serena, that's Andrew, Mina, Chad, Raye, Ken, Lita, Amy and Greg." I could tell that she would fit right in. Lucky for me. "Hi peoples!" Serena said, and squeezed between Lita and Amy. "Hey Serena! Like Star Meadow?" Lita asked. I take my seat on the end, nearest to the wall. "Yeah! It's nice! This camp is a lot better than the one I had to counselor at last year." "Is this your first time here?" Andrew asked. "Yeah, but it's cool! So far, the people here are SO nice! When do we get our supper! I'm starved." "They should bring it out any minute now!" I say, eyeing the kitchen. "Well, while I'm waiting, I'm going to read my letters." Serena said, and pulled 2 letters out of her pocket. "Hey, who were those from?" Lita asked. "Well, this one is from my parent's," Serena said, holding up one, "and this other one is from my boyfriend." And she held up the other one with a innocent smile on her face. Boyfriend?!?!?!?! I swallow hard. "Oooh, how sweet! What's he like?" Mina asked, being her usual romantic self. "He's tall, really cute, and so romantic! He once took me out in a rowboat at midnight. There was a full moon, and the city lights were beautiful! His name is Eric." Serena said, and sighed, remembering that night. She has a boyfriend? Well, a woman as beautiful as her, what else would you expect. She really loves him, too. Well, that certainly put a damper on my conversation this evening. I hardly said anything, save when I absolutely had to. I watched through eating as Serena skimmed through her parent's letter, which was kind of long, then open the one from Eric. "Hey guys, you won't guess what happened to Brad." Rei suddenly said. "I'm co-counseling with him this year, and while he's unloading his stuff in his cabin, this squirrel runs out from under his bed, between his legs, and into his car! He was so scared he fell over!" She said, before cracking up, along with the rest of us. I, of course, am laughing my head off, as I imagine Brad falling flat on his butt over a little squirrel! I glance over at Serena, who is not laughing. She wasn't even listening! She was just staring at her letter, her eyes getting bigger and bigger really fast. I thought I saw her lower lip start to tremble, but I never got to know for sure. "Hey, Serena, are you okay?" Mina asked. There was no answer. Only a soft "no" before Serena stood up and ran out of the building. "Serena!" Amy called, and the whole table stood up to go after her. "Guys, wait. I'll go see what's wrong. Just stay here." I say, and run after her. 'Man, I'm sure glad that they listened' I think, after I exit. The first place I look is up at Star Meadow, and there she was, sitting outside on the pic-nic table, sobbing in her arms. Her letter was still in her hands, only crumpled. "Serena, are you okay?" I ask, softly. "No, leave me alone!" She mutters, then runs to her cabin. Now, who in their right mind would leave her alone right now. Not me. I go into her cabin, and find her sitting on her bed. She doesn't even hear me come in, and she doesn't even say anything when I sit next to her. Nothing but uncontrollable sobs. "Serena, please tell me what's wrong. I can do nothing but help you, you can tell me!" I whisper, and put my arm around her. She moves slightly away, then practically throws herself on my, making me hold her tighter. "Eric, he..." she stuttered. "SHhhhhhh, it's okay, Serena. I'm here, don't worry. Everything'll be fine." I say. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serena's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Eric, he..." I start to say, but can't bring myself to say anything else. I can't remember doing anything wrong to make him want to break up with me, just out of the blue, BAM! He tells me that he doesn't love me, that we're through, and that he'll forget me! That's nice for him, but what about me? All the time we spent together, that means NOTHING to him now? Oh, goodness, I can't take this! God knows how much I'll still love him. "Shhhhhh, it's okay, Serena. I'm here, don't worry. Everything'll be fine." Darien says. Darien, he doesn't need to be doing this! "Why, are you" I start to ask, and he says back, "Cause you shouldn't be made to be alone right now, Sere, believe me." He says softly. He's right. But I am alone! "Eric, said that he doesn't know what he ever saw in me, and that he practically hates me! I don't know what I did, but it must have been awful, but I can't remember..." I sob out, and hold a little tighter to Darien. "Oh, Serena, you didn't do anything wrong. He's just a jerk, that's all! How anyone more than that could hurt such a beautiful angel is beyond me." I hardly even hear what Darien just said. Kinda makes me feel guilty, being to wrapped up in my sorrow to actually listen. But I did hear 'beautiful angel'. Whoa boy! Serena, slow down! Your Boyfriend of 3 years writes to breakup with you, and the first thing you do, after running away and crying, is start to fall for a guy you met THIS MORNING! But, then again, what did he just call you? 'Beautiful angel'!! Is it me, or do I have a feeling Fate is looking in on us. I never felt like this when Eric held me, never this 'connected'. Maybe, this was for, I CAN'T TAKE THIS!!! For some strange reason, I look up, eyes still spilling tears. Darien smiles slightly, and raises a hand to wipe away my remaining tears. I don't think there can be any bluer eyes, anywhere in the world. Like an ocean of secrets, warmth, and love. Eyes that I could lose myself in. Eyes that were closing and slowly coming closer to mine. Is he going to.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ D-chan's POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And kiss her he did. Serena's eyes went wide at first, then closed in realization that she did love someone, only she had been loving the wrong one. Lucky for her that her only love was right in front of her, at the right time. When Darien pulled back, Serena's tears had stopped. She looked at the letter that was in her hand, smiled, and crumpled it up. There was a trash can by the door, and soon the letter was sailing through the air, landing neatly into it. "Two points!" Serena said, then pulled Darien into another kiss. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ END!!! Whew, that was nice! *sigh* *mission immossible theme plays, but d-chan doesn't hear it. Spider creeps up onto her hand, and prepares to scare her!* WHACK!!!! AHH! MY HAND!!! *d-chan whacked her own hand, splattering spiderguts on her hand and keyboard* Gotcha! Laterz peoples! See you next fic! D-chan (oh, and thanx for the name, s-chan And miri-chan, and whiterose-chan! *blows Kiss*)
