The Pitfalls of A Past Life |part 1/? A story by Crystal Skye ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()() This is the first story I've ever posted in my entire life. Wait, don't run! I'm not that bad, I think.... Anyway, if I am, someone will probably MST it (That really sounds fun...I think I'll do it---I just don't wanna suffer from the consequences!) and then at least someone will read it. Yay! Okay, before you read this, please note: Minako has appeared, they know Usagi's the Moon princess, and they don't know Mamoru is Tuxedo Kamen. I think that's all you should know.... everything else is pretty much the same. Maybe. Disclaimer: Do I really have to right this? I mean, it's called a DISclaimer, so doesn't that automatically mean that I am not claiming anything? DUH! Anything between === is something that happened in the Silver Millennium, and <><><> just means a break in time. ============= Serenity held the dead Endymion in her arms, her silver tears falling on his ebony hair. "Endymion," she whispered, lowering her head and kissing his nose. She pushed him gently off her lap, and grabbed his sword, lying uselessly beside him. She put the tip onto her stomach, and with one loud sob pushed the sword into herself, killing her. And the baby. ============= Usagi wiped a sweaty bang off her forehead, only to sigh as it dropped again in her eyes. She was not here, she thought. She wasn't in some dinky hospital bathroom, looking into a chipped mirror over a sink. She wasn't avoiding her mother and father, and she most definitely wasn't getting a pregnancy test. But she was. Usagi sighed again, cursing her parents. The late night battles had finally become obvious, and Usagi was frankly horrified to find that her parents thought she was sneaking out to see some guy. As if. Usagi couldn't say anything however, and if she had, what? 'Oh no, Mom, I wasn't seeing anyone! No, I was off fighting horrible monsters as the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon! I have absolutely no time to get pregnant! Duh!' She shook her head and grabbed a paper towel, wiping her face off. That dratted nurse would be coming back soon, and she wanted to be in the room when she announced that Usagi wasn't pregnant, and see the relief on her parents faces, and see them beg for forgiveness. She straightened her hospital gown and walked out of the bathroom, her blonde hair streaming behind her as she came to room 901. She walked in and sat in a chair, looking as obviously as possible that she was mad. Her mother sat in a plastic chair across from her, and Usagi noticed that her handkerchief looked ready to be thrown away. Her father had reduced his pacing the room to sitting down and chewing on his thumb. "Ms. Tsukino?" A snappy young nurse stepped into the room, her hands holding a large white folder. Usagi sat up straighter, and glanced at her mother, who was looking like she was going to throw up. "Well," the nurse said, and opened the folder. She looked at Usagi. She pulled out a manilla folder from the white one. Handing it to Usagi, she looked over at Mr. and Mrs. Tsukino. "Your daughter has just been handed some information I'd like you to go over together, and I think that's about all she'll need, as you are her parents. Now, she'll be coming back--" "Why will I come back?" Usagi said worriedly. "I'm NOT pregnant. I'm a virgin, for heaven's sake!" The nurse looked uncomfortable. "You mean....I ...oh, dear." She opened her folder again, then sighed and snapped in shut. "Well, if you are a virgin, you're also the next Mary of Nazareth. You're definitely three and a half months pregnant. Now, you all are free to go, this test was free; just walk on out. And no abortions--you're too far ahead. Good day!" The nurse stepped out of the room, followed by an angry Kenji Tsukino. "Get dressed," he snapped."We're leaving." <><><> The ride home was silent; Usagi was in shock. 'Pregnant?! I can't be! I've never even had sex! Not ever! Not even in-- Oh My Gosh!' Usagi's brain was in over drive--this couldn't be. But wasn't it the same time, different life? Luna, Luna would know. She knew everything. Hopefully. When they arrived home Usagi tried to go straight to her room, but her father stopped her. "We need to talk," he said calmly, and Usagi knew he was going to explode. Explode he did. "How could you, Usagi! We trusted you, we thought you had morals!" "Papa, I didn't- -" "Then how did this happen?! The evidence is against you, Usagi. You sneak out your window at unheard of hours, come back about an hour later, and you never tell us that what we assume is incorrect!" "But, Papa, I did!" "Then where were you?" Usagi bowed her head. She couldn't tell them--Beryl would surely try to harm them. She sniffed quietly as tears welled up. She would keep it a secret, no matter what they thought. She was-- "--Protecting them, that's all she was doing!" Rei exclaimed later, as a tear streaked Usagi looked down into her hot chocolate. The senshi had gathered at the Crown Arcade, and Makoto was fiercely protecting Usagi from stares. Armed with a menu, whenever someone walked by she'd shove it in front of her face, keeping Usagi, who was sitting beside her, safe. Ami had tears in her eyes as well, and she leaned over and stroked Usagi's hand. "Where here for you, Usagi-chan," she said tearily. "No matter what your parents say, you can always come to us--Usagi?" Usagi had begun to cry again, and Rei forgot the Odango Atama vs. Pyro rivalry, and scooted over to hug the trembling girl. "What's wrong, Usa-chan? We're here, nothing you say will make us angry." Usagi dug her head into Rei's shoulder, and a muffled voice said, "Papa--he's furious that I won't say who the father is. How can I tell him it's someone from over a thousand years ago? He said that until I come to my senses-which includes adoption when the baby's born-then I...I am no child of his. Minna, I have no home!" She dissolved in sobs, and Rei clutched her tighter. "You do have a home, Usagi-chan! Four!" Minako leaned over the table angrily. "I don't care what your father says--no adoption! And you agree....right?" At Usagi's weak nod, Minako grinned. "Good. This child will be, after all, the heir to the silver millennium! And you can stay with us all this time! We'll switch when you feel uncomfortable, and one of us will even switch schools with you if you're that worried! Right, minna?" At the chorus of hai's some people turned around, only to hurriedly look back at their plates, due to Rei and Makoto's stares. The next few hours were spent at the shrine. They had decided that Usagi would stay with Makoto first, then Rei, Minako, and lastly Ami. 'It'll be perfect --Ami's mom is a doctor, you know!' Usagi had politely refused to change schools immediately, and she proclaimed she would wait until she was staying with Rei to transfer to her school. Rei looked uncomfortable. "Usagi," she said quietly,"you'll have to bring your grades up majorly if you want them to accept you in the middle of the year. Especially since you'll be starting to show." Ami had agreed to help every night, and Usagi felt relieved. She would do this. Her friends knew the truth, they would help her through everything, and she would be the smartest mother in the world. She would succeed-- she had a reason to now. <><><> Usagi looked up at her mother uncomfortably. "Here. It's the number for the place I'm staying at. I won't be there forever- -I'll call you when I move. I love you." She started to walk away to the cab, where Makoto and Ami were waiting, the trunk full of her things. "Usagi!" She turned to face her teary mother. "Usagi, you know your father wasn't serious. if you'll just let him calm down, or you'll tell him who did this to you--" "I wasn't raped, mother," Usagi said icily. "And I will not give him time to cool down. This was his decision; he is no longer my father, as I am not his child. Don't give him this number." <><><> "Here, this was mine. I think the kid will like it when it's older. I know I did." Makoto sank onto Usagi's bed, and Usagi looked up at her gratefully. "Thanks Mako-chan. I'm really sorry about breakfast--" "No, don't be. Every mother to be gets morning sickness, ne? Just don't throw up on This." She pushed the book into Usagi's hands, and Usagi read the fat kanji on the cover. "Three O' Clock Fairies and the Dream Mirror. I think I'll read this!" Makoto laughed, then straightened her back. "Oh, Ami brought a study guide by--she wants you to fill in as many things as possible before she comes over. I'll leave it on the kitchen table before I go." Usagi reached over her bed and pulled out her backpack. She shoved some papers into Makoto's hands. "Give these to Haruna-sensei. I know she really wanted to see my book report, and tell her I did all that extra credit she mentioned." "All of it?!" "Hai. I want to get into Rei's school. I know I won't be able to bear it if the kids I've known since I was six find out that I'm pregnant at fourteen--well, almost fifteen." Makoto nodded. "Usagi... well, never mind. I'll see after school. If you need anything, Dr. Mizuno's at home. Anything, Usagi. If you need a glass of milk, call her. If the cat next door starts to annoy you, call--" "I got it, Makoto. Chill. I'm only four months along--I'll be fine." Makoto hugged Usagi swifly, then yelled she was going to be late. The last thing she heard was Usagi's light laughter before she closed the door. <><><> Usagi was bored. It was only 11:30; Makoto and the others wouldn't be out until 2:30. I'll surprise them! she thought eagerly. I'll just show up at school and walk home with them. They'll be so happy! She pulled on some stretchy pants and a thick sweater. The baby had produced an unattractive lump in her tiny stomach, but Usagi loved it just the same. She worried for a moment what it would look like when she was nine months, then shook it off. This was her baby. Hers and Endymion's--no need whatsoever to be ashamed. It was a little late--over a thousand years, in fact, but as Luna had explained, what had happened back then was returning to them. They had died at fourteen, and many things had been going on. Endymion and Serenity were engaged. Serenity was pregnant--although she didn't tell Endymion. The Princess of Mars had recently acquired a scar from a rampaging dragon-- Hino Rei's right pinkie now had a pink sliver of flesh on it. Sailor Jupiter had singed her hair --when Makoto transformed, her hair was an inch shorter(the first time it had appeared Makoto had nearly passed out.) Sailor Mercury had gotten her ears pierced again--Ami suddenly found two holes in each ear. Only Minako had remained unchanged. Pulling on her jacket(it was January, after all)Usagi stepped out of the apartment and went down the stairs, letting her coat fly open. Usagi was halfway to the school when she stopped by the Arcade. Her fingers itched to play the games, but Usagi didn't have enough yen to blow on something like that. She pushed the door open, and went to the counter. Motoki was there, and to her surprise so was Mamoru. She sat down beside the coffee drinking, paper reading man. "Hey, Usagi," he said, not even looking up from his paper. They had declared a truce a while back, after Motoki had locked them in the closet for two hours, until they stopped yelling at each other. After that, they didn't talk much --what to say? But today Usagi was too happy. "'Lo, Mamoru-san! Isn't it beautiful outside? I love winter!" "Why aren't you at school, Usagi-chan?" Usagi frowned. Make something up quick. ----. Oooookay, then change the subject. "Well, why aren't you?" she put her hand on her chin and looked at him quizzically. "No school---hey! give that back!" Usagi had taken the newspaper away from him, and he jumped up to take it. She ran outside laughing, and she barely had time to switch it to the other hand before he was upon her. "Give...it....back. What the--?!" He had leaned forward and reached across her to get the paper; he had also grazed her round stomach. Usagi stopped laughing and threw the paper down. She turned and ran into one of the alleys, heedless to his cries. She turned behind a dumpster, holding her nose at the smell. She closed her eyes to keep the stinging wind out of them. She would have screamed when he grabbed her, but his hand was on her mouth. "What happened to you, Usagi?" he demanded, his deep blue eyes worried. "Was that by choice?" Usagi turned her face away. No one was supposed to know, especially not Mamoru. He was the perfectionist--to be shunned by him was horrible. Tears began seeping out of her eyes, and she pushed herself into his arms, burying her face in the shallow of his shoulder. He was so warm, and Usagi felt all of the pent up emotions flow freely. Was this right? She could have an adoption, she wouldn't care---but she would, she already loved the child. Should she leave Tokyo? Nagasaki didn't sound so bad.....but then who would protect the world? And lastly, the thought that made her cry--What would Tuxedo Kamen say? She cried. Mamoru held her gently, not asking any questions. She was in pain, and Mamoru thought he knew why. Not one to make assumptions, when her sobs were only sniffles he asked gently, "Do you want to talk?" No. Usagi didn't want to talk. She wanted to stay warm and close to him forever, but that wasn't possible. Instead of backing away, however, Usagi nodded, inwardly smacking herself. 'WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!' \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ What has she done? She's literally setting herself up to tell Mamoru she's Sailor Moon! Uh-oh. Will she, or will she get out of it? And what about the baby? Is it Chibi-Usa, or is it someone else? Oooohh----aaaah. Find out next time, if there is a next time. If I don't get, say, three emails, then this thing is going to be one big unfinished mess. It's October, 2000, for those of you who are looking at this in 3347. Remember, email is a balm to the soul.
